Thats just CrAzY... was in the hospital this spring for one night, over $6000! Not as high as yours but still one nights stay, that is a high priced hotel!? Hope all works out for you!!

Sounds like when I had to go to the hospital ER at about 9pm on a Monday night for metal chips in my eye. NO ONE was in the ER, yet it took about 45 minutes to get in, lol. Doctor came in and was going to try to use a "beveled needle" to try and scrape it out of my eye because she didn't want to bother the on-call eye doctor. Basically, all 5 seconds she spent with the needle trying to do whatever it was, she said she can't do anything about it and to go to the eye doctor's office in the morning and sent me home with eye drops and 6 vicadin. I got a bill for $600 for her services of saying there's nothing I can do and go to someone else in the morning and a $1,000 bill for the 1 oz bottle of eye drops and the 6 vicadin that I never used. They never took my insurance (whole 'nother long story) even though I had it. The $1,000 got taken care of by someone but I never paid the doctor. I disupted it. She ended up leaving the state about a week after this. Horrible doctor. She was also responsible, but not liable of course, for my grandfather's death and almost my sisters...

Hospitals are rediculous, hope it works out for you.

P.S.- Went to my friend's mother's eye office the next day and in all of about 5 mintues and $70 later, I was on my way...

Are hospital prices high? Yes...but you need to realize that everyone who does pay is footing the bill for their services PLUS all the people who don't pay. I see $4 BILLION in hospital supplies come across my desk every year, I know exactly what certain items cost the company and the patients.

Would you want discount healthcare? Some minimum wage employees tending to your bed while you while injured? Personally, I wouldn't. I'd like THE BEST nurses / doctors / overall healthcare I can possibly get. Going to a universal healthcare isn't the answer to better healthcare, I'm sure many of you would like to keep your same doctors and not be mandated to visit some other hospital / doctor when you are sick.

You only have 1 life, might as well treat it with care.

That's a misconception about universal health care. I can choose whichever hospital I like. Sometimes, for certain services, they will recommend I visit another hospital for specialized treatment such as cancer or other diseases.

I'm also not forced to have a specific doctor or anything like that. I can choose which doctor I would like to treat me (if they're still taking new patients).

I can't afford doctors bills and can barely afford insurance.

A few years ago my mom had to have brain surgery, forgot what that cost.

My mother in law is battling breast cancer. Started last June. Six Chemotherapy treatments, a double masectomy, reconstructive surgery with new implants (the two frontal type!), and now localized radiation.

As of now the bill is 187,000. She has had to come up with 11,000 out of pocket. She had to borrow against her 401K and our Church has given tons. The best thing though, she is still with us and according to the doctors, will be for a while now.

Nick, hope you have a speedy recovery. The back is tough to heal sometimes. Negotiate with the hospital. Most do not pay their hospital bills at all so they will come off some.

Thats the thing that I don't understand. I was on a Morphine pump while in the room after the surgery. And I was clicking that little button! I bet there's a special bill coming just for the good drugs

It's going ok. I'm in more pain now, than I was before the surgery. My first post surgery appointment was Tuesday, and the Dr said everything is fine. But I don't feel fine
