  • Which Steam Cleaner?

I was looking to get a light duty steam cleaner for the carpets in my car and wanted to get some opinions on which to buy.

I know if I wanted a pro job, I'd get a heavy duty hot water extractor, but I will simply be using this machine for my personal use and I don't really want to lay out the money for a top quality machine.

    Here are my choices:

    1. Simoniz Automotive Steamer ($99 Cdn).

    2. Bissell's Little Green Machine ($99 Cdn).

    3. Bissell's SpotBot ($149 Cdn).

    4. Something else (you suggest it + link and purchase price).

    5. Forget it, you're wasting your time, all of these machines are toys and don't clean well at all.

Please chime in and let me know, what you've tried and how they work. I'm thinking of getting one of these maching in the next two weeks so your opinions are greatly appreciated.

That is about $500 more than I want to pay!

Only the first one looks like a steam cleaner the other look like water extractors. Steam cleaners and water extractors are not the same.

Do you have a link for the first unit you posted?

          Aerocleanse,

I didn't even realize the difference until you pointed it out! (Thanks)

          There is the link.

Does it change the story at all if I say I already have a power washer and a shop vac (so I can wet vac if needed).

I have the Bissel Little Green Machine and it works fine for me. I couldn't believe the dirt it took out the first time I used it (on the floor mats, not the carpet) and my car was only six months old. I use it on the mats about once a month.

              Dave,

Do you know if there is any difference in strength between the spotbot and the little green?

I do not think there is a difference in power, I think there is just a difference with the circular scrubber that scrubs spots for you.
Have you looked into a Shark Steamer or Scunci?

McCulloch MC-1275 Heavy Duty Steam Cleaner is what I plan on buying, Look at amazon. They have some good deals on them about 100ish or so.

No, are either superior to what I'm suggesting?

Also, does anyone want to comment on the benefits of steamer vs. extractor or vice versa.

I'm thinking an extractor is more of what I'm looking for (which Aerocleanse pointed out).

Question is, even though I've got the winter (rubber) mats on wifey's car) there is still a lot of salt which has covered the carpets and the summer mats.

Will either/both Bissell products work in removing the salt and dirt?

I don't know the difference in the LGM & the Spobot. The LGM will remove salt and dirt. It is amazing the dirt it will get out.

Your not going to get a good steam cleaner for detailing for less than $700 USD. The one I use, which is on the low end of things, its:

I suggest you get one of the extractors. I have no experience with them but know a few people on here that have the LGM and like it. My suggestion, if it doesn't heat the water in the machine, try and use hot tap water in it.

Yeah, I was reading the reviews on the Simoniz one and the two reviewers both said it was a terrible machine.
