The 16th of May would be better for me. Wifey usually wants to do something over a long weekend.

            Re: Midwest Get Together

For what it's worth, usually holiday weekends end up being bad choices for non-family, non-relative, non-close friends events.

What usually happens is you think you can make it and sign-up, and as the weekend gets closer your better-half or friends or family, reminds you of the "Blank Event" you're going to. (Fill in the blank). You then cancel out.

That's one of the reasons we never schedule a class during a holiday weekend and even weekends like Mother's Day, Father's Day, Easter, etc. are sketchy at best just because life happens and things come up.

Interestingly enough, the weekend AFTER a holiday weekend is usually a good weekend to plan some kind of hobby event because usually since everyone is busy during the holiday weekend, they're not busy the next weekend. Usually recouping physically and sometimes financially, depending upon your hobby, mine always uses Aviation Fuel or Av-Gas).

When I owned my drag boat back in Oregon, Memorial Day Weekend was the kick-off weekend for summer boating even though I can't remember a single Memorial Day weekend at the lake that it didn't rain.

It looks like May 9th will be perfect.

              Any thoughts?

That should work for me. I will let you know for sure when it gets a little closer. I might be able to bring a friend or two with me if that's ok.

                    Re: Midwest Get Together

                    Hey everyone,

It's official! I will be hosting the detailing day on May 9th at my house. And, it is an honor to have it sponsored by Meguiar's!

This event is geared toward advanced detailing enthusiasts. Thanks to the excellent sponsorship from Meguiar's, we will have all of their new Professional Line compounds, polishes, and pads available to use. In addition, there will be G110's, rotaries, and Mirka abrasives.

We will start out the day by doing some testing on two black hoods. This will be an opportunity for you to try out some new technology. Lunch will be pulled pork, ribs, and chicken from Bar-B-Q Shack. After lunch, I hope to have at least two black cars for us to work on.

I'm located in Evansville, IN. It's about two hours from Louisville, KY and four hours from Indy. If needed, I would be more than happy to book a hotel.

                    To recap...

                    When? March 9th
Where? Chris's house (directions will be provided)
                    What time? 9 A.M. - 6 P.M.
What is the cost? I will ask you to help cover the lunch.

*This event is limited to 20 people* Also, we may have a very special guest at the event!

I will have a sign-up thread a month before the event.

If you have a special polisher that you would be willing to bring, please send me a PM.

I look forward to hosting the event!

Your plans sound great. Going out for barbecue sounds good and leaves the mess at the resturant , leaving more time for activities. If you need to start a list of those planning on being there please count me in. How about another list of what products or equipment will be needed or snacks etc.Would love to see how to wet sand orange peel (either single stage or clear coat).Just my 2cents.

                        Re: Midwest Get Together

                        Thanks for your help, Paul!

I think I have the detailing supplies pretty much covered. If some of you want to bring your foam pads, we can probably use some extras and run them through the pad washer afterwards. I believe Tom is going to bring his Flex polishers and I have the Makita and another new rotary.

Other than that, we will probably need atleast three cases of water and soft drinks. If a few of you guys would bring some, that would be great.

                          Must have missed this thread...

I have to make sure if I have my son that weekend that I can make other arrangements for him. If we will be doing some sanding and buffing which I would vote for, I will bring my paint thickness gauge as well. I wish I knew of a friend that had a beater with ss paint, that would be really fun to shine up...
