Well The Bird has been sitting for a long time and I wanted to drive it even though it has 20 different colors on it. I drove it to work and it started strong but when I was leaving work for home it was sputtering when I hit the gas so I went and bought 7 gallons of gas 91 octane. So I have plenty of fuel. I check the temp guage it was in the normal range but a little hot but all was good temp wise. I was coasting downa hill and it sputtered and quit running my oil pressure light and gen light came on right when it died so I know it was not running. The oil level is good so I m not wooried about my motor really that bad. I think it vapor locked because i was coasting down a hill not much fuel is flowing and the motor was a little hot but normal so I think the fuel was vaporizing before it could reach the intake manifold. Any ideas on what might have happened. I did get it started finally it wanted to die but i kept my foot on the gas to keep the fuel flowing. I slammed it into gear and made it home. I am thankful for the nice lady who helped me push it out of the street because this car is very heavy. What I did to get it started was that I kept cranking it and cranking it until it sputtered and i blipped the throttle and it fired up so I have no idea what happened other than a vapor lock problem. Now that this has happened I am going to replace my fuel pump just in case.
So any ideas what went wrong? The car when I opened the hood smelled like raw fuel, but I checked for leaks in the fuel line but nothing.
