    Re: Painful to see this...

I saw something that really disturbed me the other day in a parking lot. Little background information...a lot of the moms in my area drive the big huge SUV's (QX45, Armada, Range Rovers, Lexus LX's, etc) and most of the dads drive sporty cars. So I was at the local shopping center outside of Vons and I see a Nissan Armada parked next to a brand new Mercedes E-Class. The mom gets in carefully but the kid gets in the back door and just slams the door into this brand new Merc. The alarm went off and the mom looked but just got back in and kept driving. Luckily me and another guy were able to get the license plate and discription of the lady and kid and left it on the windshield of the car. We left our #'s incase he needed a witness but I haven't gotten a call yet. It left a pretty good size door ding in the car but the main point was that the lady knew her son did it, got out, looked at the ding, got back in and drove off without a note or anything.

    People these days...

Hopefully they fix your dad's car properly.

        Re: Painful to see this...

        Well, here's an update:

The car's at Phillip Thorle's Autowerks here in Santee, CA. The estimate for the damages was about $2400, possibly more if they have to replace the driver's side door. They seem to think that they might be able to shrink the metal and re-form it, but from the looks of what I can see, that'd have to be one heck of a re-form job...

Here's some more pics of the damage:

Yea, I also find it very odd that it feel in the direction that it did.

Im also curious what the bike owner had to say about it falling in the direction that it did.

If it were me I would of made use of my skid plates..

              Re: Painful to see this...

Well, the bike owner was very apologetic, said he wasn't sure exactly how it happened.

He was, apparently a little upset that the brake handle was bent up and the side of his tank was scraped up, and my dad was a little peeved about it, but the guy did make good with his insurance company and filed the claim by 4 pm the day it happened. So, he was at least a semi-responsible guy about it...And there was the fact that my dad had his military ID parking tag in pictures and the guy's license plate # off the bike, so he could've reported it as a hit and run if the guy didn't do anything with his insurance.

And the latest news on this is that the auto body shop said it would need to replace the door, because the damage was severe enough that they couldn't shrink the metal skin and reshape it correctly to get the dents from the brake handle out. So, we're due to pick up the car this Fri, which will be good, because I want to go in and ask the guys at the shop about repainting my Corvette that I've got in the backyard.
