  • Painful to see this...

My dad took these pictures of his Z4 a week ago today; he came out of the office to find this had happened:

I apologize for the pictures not being better quality, but he was taking it with a Cell phone camera.

I saw it and just felt so bad for my dad. That car is his baby, a daily driver that he loves. When he came out and found the bike had fallen over into his car, he said he was on the verge of crying.

Fortunately, we have one of the best body shops in Southern California working on it, a place called Phillip Thorle's Autowerks. They said that if they don't need to replace the door on the car where the bike hit it, it could be done in 5 business days. If not, it may be 8-10 business days. And seeing some of the pics of other customers' work leads me to believe these guys know what they're doing. They're also the only authorized body shop in San Diego County to do work for Jaguars, and seem to be really, REALLY good.

I'm just going to have to warn my dad not to wax the painted areas, at least not until the paint cures.

BTW, this bike was not parked in a legal space.

        Dude, that *****!!!

Based only on the pictures, I would have to say it had to have been pushed over. The center stand was up and the kickstand was 'down', meaning the bike was leaning away from the car - if it had just fallen, it would have fallen in the other direction.

Anyway, Hope it comes out looking great!

I feel your pain. Hope the body shop is as good as advertised. Good luck with the repair.

This is definitely something I've never seen before either...My dad said it took 3 of them to lift the bike up off of his car; I didn't realize those BMW bikes were that heavy.

Oh well. It's happened; he's going to get it repaired and it should be good as new. Of course, my dad's already going, "The car's been dented! I think I need to trade it in for the Z4 M instead!"

He's been saying that since he got the Z4, though...

One of my colleagues at work had a motorbike park on the white line of the parking stall right beside his new Hummer. The bike was leaning way over and I could forsee the bike falling over. I told him to move his Hummer just in case. Why are people so rude or lazy to risk damaging other's property is beyond me!

What did the bike owner have to say about it?

                          Re: Painful to see this...

Seems to me like it had to have been pushed over. As someone else mentioned, the sidestand was down and the centerstand was up; if the bike was going over on it's own accord on relatively flat ground, it would go over on the side it's leaning on. And, BMWs tend to lean over pretty far on the side stands IME so that makes it even more doubtful it would fall over that way.

Regardless, that really stinks!! At least the guy's bike probably wasn't messed up, but your Dad's poor car! Hope it gets fixed properly!!

I too am curious what the owner of the bike had to say. As far as not being parked in a marked parking spot, that's one of the perks of riding a bike...you can park in smaller spots. Why take up a full size parking spot made for a car if there are smaller ones that your bike will fit in? JMO there though.

I hope it gets fixed. When I park my Bike it is usually on the side walk or in a small spot away from cars. Hope the body work comes out as good as new. A story my dad told me when he had his 72 Camaro SS/RS and his Honda Gold Wing. He was moving his honda and as he went to set it down on the side stand the side stand went on his foot and he let go of the bike in a panic and it fell over and hit his Camaros door.
