Re: My computer keeps freezing? it is a brand new Computer

I don't have vista but this website is the bomb - used it on my old job.

    modemhelp.org

Anyway per the site you go and

double click on control panel icon

over to the right look for classic view link (only if you have about 6 or 7 icons on your screen now)

otherwise you should be in classic view already(lots of icons will be on the screen)

then click on the Personalization icon

Then click on the Display Settings icon

You should see the type and name of your video card there under the icon of the monitor.
There may be a faster way but since I don't have vista I have go the site way.
    Hope that helps!

So this is what i found out the graphics card performance is a 3.4 I do not know if it good or bad. So I will show the info the computer rated to my dad and I will go from there. The comp has a fan that runs all the time and never shuts off. Memory is at 2046 MB I think it said I do not know if that is good or bad.

Because I bet you have the 32 bit XP. It will only recognize 3G.....

Well, if you aren't really PC savvy I would have somebody run diagnostics against your PC. The hangs could be from any hardware conflicts or just bad parts. I would try to have the memory tested first.

If you are really running Vista, Vista ships with DirectX 10.0 so you would have had to install DirectX 9 when the game installed. This all assumes you really do have Vista.

I am not a gamer but work with Vista (my day job). A rating of 3.4, I believe is "good." The highest rating is 5.9 or 6.0. I have never seen anything above 5.8 myself.

2046 MB is 2 GB (1024 MB = 1 GB). What is the game's minimum requirements? You want to be above that as much as possible. Vista needs 1 GB by itself.

One last thing, do you have Service Pack 1?

The easiest way to get these general information is to view the Welcome Center and then click Show Details.

I don't do Vista, keep hearing about too many headaches. If that was me and my PC I would create multi-boot setup, install XP on other partition and try playing with that. I wouldn't spend a moment or dime on anything else any more until I am sure it is not operating system and/or drivers that are giving me headaches.

Personally i do not like Vista my new vista has had issues before. What I will do now is I will take the comp apart and blow out all the dust. I also did run a computer diagnostic test and everything past the test except for the spy ware. What is a service pack? The games lowest requirments are I think MB512 Ram, and 1.7 hard drive space for both racing 2007 and GTR2.

Re: My computer keeps freezing? it is a brand new Computer

You should run the 3D Mark test and see if the system will or will not crash on their test. It is very graphic intensive and will give you a result of where the vid card and cpu ranks. The CPU, MB & Vid Card will get pretty hot and if Heat is ur issue, it may BSOD. My PC ( XP Pro ) is only one year old and could only get 9945 on the test, but it never BSOD on the test...only on the game which is very picky.

Service Pack 1 or 2 can be found from Microsofts Update center. Not sure if Vista has SP2. XP has SP3 and seems to run much better. On the start up menu, there should be a little icon that state Windows Update. You should really update the operating system with what ever they have on every 2nd tuesday of each month. They may have some issues resolved and some security upgrades, but hopefully you have a 2nd HD or partitioned the 1 one for back up. Some Updates arent so friendly so a saved image is ur best friend. Just in case an update or something goes wrong, you can always fall back to an old image when the PC ran great.

You can also do a memory test and check each stick to make sure it does not crash.

Re: My computer keeps freezing? it is a brand new Computer

Are you sure that you have a graphics card? I believe the GeForce 6100 was an onboard graphics version.

I run Gigabyte motherboards. Basically, they have different series - S, L, etc. Near the memory slots, it should have the Gigabyte logo and then some numbers. If you could give us these numbers, it would help.

It seems to me that this is probably a graphics issue. The 6100 can not handle the powerful graphics of today's games. Depending on the motherboard, we can suggest a graphics card that will allow you to run the games at higher settings.

The 3dMark tests are neat to run on high end computers, but it will give a really low score if the computer is not capable. I ended up getting 11k on 3dMark06.

Re: My computer keeps freezing? it is a brand new Computer

Graphics cards have really come down in price. $75 will get you quite a bit of performance.

Without knowing your motherboard, it's hard to tell which slots you have. PCI Express is the one to have. If not, it's probably AGP, which is older and out of favor.

For the money, the 8600GT is a decent card if you have PCI Express.

Also, make sure the power supply is up to par. The last thing you want is for a psu to fail.

To tell you the truth I have no idea what a PCI express or a AGP is.I know how to use them and understand them a little but I have no clue on how they really work.
