  • Update on mustang engine issue.

Well I changed all my spark plugs, it took a while (3 hours) I had to get a special socket that is desiged for getting into small holes. because the manifold was covering up a little bit of the hole. but what I found was a severed spark plug wire. it had a huge gash in it. never saw it when i bought it but I super glued it and wrapped it up with electrical tape for a temporary fix. I will post pics later of all the spark plugs. I had to take off my strut tower brace, and intake with a couple of vacuum lines. But now so far it has not backfired under hard accel. I tested the car and seems to be alright. I will buy a set of wires soon.

Good that is was a "simple" thing, not a bad injector, fuel regulator, dead cylinder etc etc.

It may have been a pain in the butt getting to them, but a shop would have charged about $200-$300 to tell you that! Glad you are getting it figured out, especially on your own. The experience gained is well worth it!

Did that fix the code? If not, I'd still say it is the O2 sensor.

I am glad you solved the problem. New plugs and wires. Your Mustang should be screaming down the road.

I am still am replacing the o2s the code is gone but I will replace it anyways. It could be bad or it might not be bad. I am going to replace it tommorow. And yes it was worth it. I am actually glad to do it myself. I gained a lot of knowledge just by working on it today. Now i see why people take their car to a dealer to get it fixed. I did put some more lucas fuel injector cleaner in it and my MPG has gone up so I do not think it is a injector or anything dealing with the fuel sys.

Just follow the instructions on the FI Cleaner. Running too much at too close of intervals can burn out injectors. For example, Chevron Fuel System Cleaner says to only use every 3,000 miles. Others say every fill up.

The lucas product did not have a interval rule on the bottle. I only use it two times a month at the most.

What brand gas do you use?

Glad it all worked out. You need to swap in a 4V, I did on my 00 GT when I had it. Makes for changing spark plugs a lot easier

I use all kinds of gas. I get mainly Cheveron but sometimes I get Valero opr even safeway gas. When I get the safeway gas I get the high octane.

I got plug wires today. I am putting them on. And I hope this issue does not come back. I hope i found the problem in the spark plug and plug wires. If it does it again I am going to get the O2s. I would have bought it today but I spent 170 bucks today of plugs and plug wires and a fan belt for the bird and plug wires for the mustang so I think I have spent enough for the week.

If you mainly run Chevron, save some money and don't worry about running cleaners. Chevron has them in it already.

If the CEL is still on, I'd get that anyways because your engine isn't running right then.

here is a pic of my car all finished with all the plug wires in. and I guess the bolt for one of the holes on the shock tower brace the thread was stripped after i took it out it would not go back in so i am going to rethread it.
