Re: Need some kids help/advice...
My daughter is an only child and her best friends gowing up were the neighbor boy and my best friend's son. They played together all the time and were inseparable until we moved. She really views her relationship with them like a sibling.
I think every parent deals with this issue, and early childhood educators stress the importance of talking to kids at a fairly early age about what appropriate limits are for personal space. Kids need to have healthy boundaries and open communication with a parent or trusted adult. You don't want to scare them or shame them, just be open with them about what is appropriate in your family. Talking to the other parents and knowing what they consider acceptable and how they will approach it, is a very proactive step to take.
There are some excellent books on the subject of raising healthy, self aware kids...one is From Diapers to Dating by Debra Haffner. Not that all the answers are in a book, but it can make you feel a little more comfortable dealing with the inevitable conversations that will come up as she grows into adulthood.
