Gah, I wish I knew more about detailing so I could work for you full time. I'm the kid who called you who was interested in working / learning from you but time doesn't permit me to. Where exactly is your shop? I know you go everywhere as far as the mobile detailing goes.

Shop is in Haltom City.

It's true about not finding good help anymore. It's seem's like that everyone wan't to make their own hours way not yours. That's why I detail on the side and on my own.

Having been in sales for over 30 years it has been my experience that an "incentive based pay scale" will always weed out the bad apples and the good people will excell. I think you've got a bad apple. If he worked eight hours at Lowe's, HD, Mc D's etc he'd be lucking to make $80 so your incentive based pay is excellent. Perhaps you might want to look for a couple of retired guys who want to just work 2 or 3 days a week each. You might get some good people.

Commission/piece work will always weed out the slackers. I'll +1 the suggestion of hiring retiree's. I've been doing that for a few years now and I have to say it's working out very well. They bring a lot to the table. I've had horrible luck with younger employees. Yep, it's the BlueHair crew for me.

I agree that incentive based pay is the key here, which is why I chose this route over hourly wage.

Got my new guy in training. He's doing more and more on his own, which makes me smile He's not the fastest, but he definitely doesn't milk it either if you know what I mean. He strives to do a good job.

This was his first "almost" complete week by himself, and he made $200 more than my last guy ever did in a weeks time

Just because there is more work than 1 person can handle, doesn't mean it has to be done. YOU have the option of telling them you will add them to the list and call when it's their turn. You don't have to do anything.

The possibility is that you lose those customers. You would keep the dedicated others though which would be good.
