There isn't much expertise involved. Do a search on Google and you too could find all the tools freely available for download and information on how to use them.

Autopia and MOL aren't alone. Just do a google search for "hacked vbulletin arab" and you will find many a vbulletin site that has been hacked by these guys.

I've also heard that you can find product keys for many programs on the internet too...A friend of mine used to download a company's software and use it for free this way (Back in his darker days).

It's a good idea to periodically run a port scan of your systems. Here are a few sources. There are many others as well.

http://www.dslreports.com/scan

http://www.securitymetrics.com/portscan.adp

http://www.hackerwatch.org/probe/

This will point out where your system may be vulnerable and what you can do to close some of the vulnerabilities.
