Meguiar's Online Hacked!

Our server was maliciously hacked and our data base was deleted

Sunday night, at approximately 9:00pm, the server that hosts Meguiar's Online was hacked by a malicious person or group and the data base was deleted.

The data base for messages and pictures were last backed up on Friday night, August 6th. Any messages posted, pictures uploaded, Private Messages sent or received will have been wiped out and lost forever by the hackers.

Also, any new members that registered after this time will have to re-register. I know that before we went down we had over 1300 members.

We apologize for all of the lost data and measures are being taken to prevent this from happening again. It is always a good idea to copy and paste any important information that you are posting to an external software program such as MS Word so that in the event something goes wrong, you will have a back-up copy of your post.

Please understand that even with the best firewalls and proactive systems in place, if a person or a group of people are intent on causing evil, they will often find a way to reach their goal.

Here was a message I had bookmarked that was posted on August 2nd that seems to work still. It wasn't deleted. Not sure if it shows up through the message board or if you have to type it directly to get there, but it does work if that helps at all. Good luck.

David told me he backed everything up on Friday, August 6th. I haven't checked yet because whatever the exact date and time is, is relevant.

But, my fingers are crossed.

You guys also need to either delete index.html or change the search order in the .htaccess of the web root to look for php files before html files

That way the real front page will come up first.

If you goto http://www.meguiarsonline.com/, you get the placeholder. But you can goto http://www.meguiarsonline.com/index.php to get the real main page.

Easiest way to fix this would be to delete index.html since it's just a place holder. Then people who don't have forums bookmarked can get back to it

I seriously doubt that there is any political message intended. And yes, I am aware of the signifigance of those images.

It's a hack, is all. For some reason, David B has been selected as a target.

Tom,

I agree with you and other on this. I have deleted my post with the picture of what the hacker did, there is no good reason to feed the fire. I have also deleted the photo over on Autopia. (I had to upload it there because our Gallery wasn't operational.

Chances are high it was just someone with too much time on their hands and we were the recipients of their actions.

The Gallery is now functioning. It appears, that at least so far, the last photo I have showing was uploaded on Tuesday August 3rd.
