Re: Has anybody had their car or truck painted by Maaco
Well I figured more out what I am going to do in my plan. I figure that I will sand the car down all the way to metal and another question should I etch prime it first? Then after sanding I will trailer it to maaco then they will prime it then I would take it back to my school and wet sand the entire car then I will take it back to them when it is done and they will shoot. That is a rough out line of my plan. I still have a lot of body work to do so I am going to get started after this next storm cell passes through.

And if the car's been in an accident and needs body work, forget about it... the amount of waves in the surface that are horribly obvious after the car is painted is ridiculous.

Re: Has anybody had their car or truck painted by Maaco
In the long run I spoke to a Maaco service guys and he said to be better off prep it my self which is probably going to happen. He said it would save me up to 200 dollars by prepping it myself. It is all in the prep. But it is nice to have a good painter as well. That truck looks good and will continue to look like that if it has the paint cared by someone. That is my idea, getting it painted by Maaco then I will keep extra good care of it and I won't have to worry. Nothing wrong with Maaco they provide a good paint job for what you pay for.

Re: Has anybody had their car or truck painted by Maaco
This truck has a $800.00 Maaco paint job, the sides always looked pretty good but the hood was always duller than the rest of the paint probably from how the previous owner maintained it, or rather didn't properly maintain it. It was a single stage finish by the way.
The new owner is actually getting it ready for a new paint job which will be a basecoat/clearcoat paint system.

Just an idea: Since prep work is a big issue (I would think so anyways) with how everything like this turns out, it probably couldn't hurt to do some yourself. May be better than theirs, and it would save you some money.

I have learned that the shark company offers one of the best "paint jobs that will last about 3 years" in the country.
I appreciate the posts regarding the quality of this type service and would like to hear if any other companies offer a better price\product for the same type of service.
IMHO, nothing wrong with "getting what you pay for", when that is what you need.
Maybe your use of Megs products will extend the life of the paint job.

From here on out, refer to that particular business as "company named after a shark"
anyway, I think this post shoulda helped

I won't have to worry about my chrome bumpers because I am taking them off and I am going to tape it my self so it will be ready to be painted and be done. My parents think just getting a Maaco paint job would be good for me. So it would last a while and it will make the car look better than it is right now. I have so man different colors on my t-bird you have no idea. It has been tagged at my school when it was parked in the auto shop.

Re: Has anybody had their car or truck painted by Maaco
My father got a Maaco paint job,
and it is the worst looking paint on the street (even counting lawnmowers and snowblowers!)
For time sake, I'll just list it out
1-flaking 3 year old paint
2-overspray on bumpers/taillights/tires/wheel wells
3-cracked 3 year old paint
4-uneven pinstripes
ETC
[Edited for statement that may be considered bashing; Tim]

Re: Has anybody had their car or truck painted by Maaco
After I have read all the discussion that is going on it brought something to my attention that it would be worth it to get it painted by a professional which i do have a professional in my area. He restores cars for the public that have classic cars and for the Concourse Delagance in Monterey where his cars do very well. He is a friend of my dad and he said he would love to take a look at my car and he has a paint booth and maybe I will pay him to paint my Thunderbird.
