Stang97, with paint you get what you pay for. A bad paint job usually won't rear its ugly head for a couple of years. It's only up to you whether or not it is worth your hard earned money.

Around here, Maaco is one step above a six pack of Krylon!

Re: Has anybody had their car or truck painted by Maaco
Yeah, My friends told me to get a better professional paint job but it is what I can afford. I will be keeping extra good care of it once it has paint. I was working on a 64 1/2 mustang 260v-8 and it had a new paint job recently and it looks good from far away but when you get up close to it you can see runs and splotches in some areas. I am going to ask the owner who painted the car. But it had a nice finish in the flat areas like the hood, roof, fenders and quarter panels. I will clay it once it is done, I am planning on getting it painted in a month from now, save up as much as I can. I am planning to show it at my High school car show in may and I would like to be done with it before the car show but it is all about the money and time and how the weather acts out.

Don't get me wrong, I understand it is cheap work, but I have seen some pretty decent paint jobs from places like that. I know my truck had to of been painted somewhere similar and the only paint that is coming off is over, from what I can tell, a decent amount of body filler. Besides, overspray? You're going to be detailing it anyways, and claying is the first step!

Wow!! They are still in business?
They haven't been here in NY for years! (I think they got kicked out, just like Rusty Jones)
From what I have heard, the paint *****, they spray over everything, and have poor finishing skills.
You might as well save up your money, and get a professional paint job. It will be worth it in the long run.

The thing about Macco, is you get what you pay for ...
Their entry level paint job, isn't bad for the cost, but will it last...? thats another story..

I have heard about Earl Shives. Curious about all of those places really.

Re: Has anybody had their car or truck painted by Maaco
Sorry to bring bad news but I know multiple people within my car club that have had their cars painted by different Macco locations and ended up with a crappy paint job. The both looked ok initially but over time the paint started chipping and pealing off, cracking etc. I don't recall how long it took for these things to start happening. It all depends on what your putting the paint on and in your case with a classic automobile like a 62 thunderbird I would consider investing a little more and get a better paint job. I think the last thing you would want is a few years from now the paint job to look crappy because of poor work.
Even though you plan to do the prep work yourself I heard a story from one member who did the same and still got a crappy paint job from Macco.
If you looking on the inexpensive side try Miracle Auto Painting & Body Repair or Earl Shives. I don't have any experience or have heard anything bad about them so you would have to do some research but I have heard to many bad stories about Macco paint jobs cracking, chipping and pealing after a year or two to ever consider using them.

Sure,I called Maaco and they have to see the car to get a exact estimate. It won't be painted for maybe another month or so, got to save up. Maaco is good because they have inexpensive but good quality.

I think my truck may have been painted by Maaco or something similar at one point in time. If you go that route, let me know how it is.
