Lucas Fuel Injection Cleaner is pretty tough to beat.

Also, SeaFoam is a great multipurpose cleaner.

I have heard that the lucas stuff works. I want to know if the Marvel Mystery oil works. I used to use the STP stuff but I stopped because I didn't realized that I am supposed to do it before an oil change not after an oil change.

This weekend my Accord is going to start running synthetic oil I have almost 80,000k on it so I think it's broken in and ready for some synthtic.

x2 Seafoam. I put some in my crankcase about 250 miles before an oil change, some in my gas tank, and some in my Brake Booster line, and wow did it help.

It lowered my idle about 300 rpms! Plus its really cool when your tail pipe blows smoke for about 5 minutes.

I switched to synthetic at 82k, runs like a champ. I would reccomend doing the first synthetic change about 3,000 after you start because you will remove lots of sludge with synthetic, so it loads up pretty quickly. I'm changing mine about ever 7.5k miles, I know I can go 10k-15k, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I run synth (Mobil 1) in a turbo PT Cruiser (lots of extra heat going on with a turbo, especially when said turbo is oil cooled!) and also in a Miata that often sees it's 7000 rpm redline.

The other cars get regular liquid dead dinosaur poured into 'em

Mobil 1 is the best synthetic oil you can get. If Porsche fills everyone of their cars with Mobil 1 from the factory, you can bet that it is surely something good!

I filled my mower up Mobil 1 - yeah I know I'm crazy - and I can really tell the difference in the way it idles.

If you are dealing with an engine that has MANY miles and is ancient, then a synthetic motor oil is not for you. Synthetic oil is able to squeeze into every gap and it will allow your engine to start to drip a little oil. If your engine already drips oil, the DO NOT use synthetic oil; it will create some really big problems. If your engine is fairly new, then synthetic oil is a huge benefit for you engine.

ya... that might not be so good for your mower, because usually the 4-Cycle engines need 4-Cycly engine oil. The oil is almost always SAE 30 and most manufacturers will say never to put car oil in your mower

what can i say, I'm mower crazy!

anyways I am thinking about running a few bottles of Lucas throught my engine before Honda changes my oil for the last time, so I will actually be changing to synthetic in about 5000k

Be aware that as with waxes there are bad, average, good and very good products. If you want really good products at at reasonalby price I suggest you look at www.bardahl.com Great products!

Unlike motor oils (API standards), oil and fuel additives are not requiered to meet any standards. Basically you can promote what you want. Good fuel and oil addtives really work. I do not want to open a can of worms here. Most car manufacturers state that they do not recommend the use of any fuel or oil additive, not because they don't work, but becasue of liability issues due to the non existant standards.

I also use Mobil 1 5W20, I have used it in my truck after 2500 miles. Like Mike-in-Orange mentioned great oil to use in a Turbo or Supercharged engine. I am convinced from now on any vehicle I own will get Mobil 1.

Might just be in my head but the first thing I noticed with Mobil one it seemed my engine run a little smoother and just a touch cooler(this is hard to tell since IMO Fords engine temp gauge is about worthless). I run 6 months or 5000 miles on the oil.

Yes it is expensive I think its about $6 (5W20) a quart in the US now but its worth it. Longer oil change intervals with no worries!

Back to the question of Marvel Mystery Oil. Is it as good as Lucas ? It has been on the market for like forever.

Stick with good quality, PAO synthetic oil (for example Mobil 1) and you will be in good shape. Synthetic oil is a rare product in that it has no disadvantages except cost. The extra cost is well worth the viscosity stability, better heat resistance and better low temperature flow. Conventional oil doesn't hold a candle to synthetic. Really!

Oil additives are of dubious value. Leave it to the oil professionals to decide what additives should be in your oil. Afterall, if these over-the-counter additives were so good, Porsche (and BMW, Audi, etc.) would require you to add them to their cars.

                              hey everyone,

Just to add to the mix here. There are some other really good synthetic oils other than mobil 1 like redline, amsoil, motul and royal purple. I am currently running mobil1 10w/30 in my engine, and redline 75w/90 in the transmission and rear diff. I used amsoil in the engine a while ago but stopped using it because I had to mail order it and it was a real P.I.T.A to have to wait for the oil to be delivered before I changed it. Redline and Amsoil's fuel system treatment really works. You can get the redline at Pepboys.
