Hitachi offers 5-year warranty on it while all others offer 1-year and Metabo offers 3-years (only if you register). That might be indicator Hitachi feels confident in it enough but it is not a guarantee as there are various ways how companies come up with longer warranties.

I know number of people has been using it daily for few years and no complaints. I remember only of one person that had problem and IIRC that problem was self-caused (he dropped it from roof of building or something like that?) but it might be wrong. That might not be telling anything, but I hope it helps at least a little bit.

My vote is for Makita. I have always been a fan of Makita power tools and the rotary is no exception. Great quality rotary that will last forever. Well, hopefully.

Agree, there's a lot of great tools on the market and Makita is one of them. Sad to say, the one we bought in 1988 and have buffed out a zillion cars with has finally died. We were grinding some metal and the grinding disk just started freewheeling as something in the gear drive started slipping.

                    So sad...

I have had very good luck with my Makita. I just wish it was a little lighter.
If its fast, loud, and runs on a flammable liquid...count me in.

Re: plan to purchase new rotary

I have the makita 9227C which comes with a loop handle a bonnet and a allen wrench. My question is would the new meg's pad fit perfectly with it? Sorry newbie question, can someone elaborate the variable speed for example speed 1 how many RPMs or speed 3 how many RPMs. Thanks

They're probably about the same, the Hitachi is quieter from memory, I've never owned one but have used one.

                                The Makita isn't bad though.

For hours of buffing you should wear hearing protection as should anyone working near you.

                                Safety first.
