Re: plan to purchase new rotary

I have one, along with a Porter Cable 7428 and an el-cheapo ATD polisher. I love my new Flex rotary, it so light and has plenty of power. Probably will be my go-to polisher now and I'll save the Porter Cable for the bigger jobs. I use the ATD as a pad cleaner....

To be honest with you I'm not sure on the thread size. It's really an extension. I bout it at ADS.

why do you have an adaptor on your makita? Is it for the extra height?
I've got a makita and use the W64 backing plate so I can switch from the pad I'm using on my G100 to my makita and don't need a adaptor?
              Hey Daniel,
I guess this is really an extension and not an adapter. I can still use the same pads as I do on my G100. I don't always keep my hand on the handle especially when I'm working on the side panels. With the additional height I can place my hand on the top of the Makita without my fingers being to close to the backing plate or pad. I can also polish a little more area like right below the side mirrors.

I have been using the dewalt for about 2 weeks now, and I do like it on flat panels. It handles effortlessly. I have tried out the Metabo and it seemed to run all over the place. I am pretty sure it is because of the weight. I used to have a 9227CX3, and I loved it. The loop handle is very pleasant to use if you have lots of verticles. I am not sure what handle feels nice on the dewalt. Right now mine is used without a handle.

If possible I would try out all of them and see which on you like. Personally I would get the 9227CY3.

The variable speed just went out on my third Harbor Freight rotary.....

--for 24 bucks they work Ok....(if you like breathing a burning electrical smell)

                              They are now sanders!

I just bought a new Makita 9227CY (with the stick side handle) with help and recommendations from this thread--hoping to test out it tomorrow.

                              Thanks fellas.

Well the local harbor freight had the Chicago Electrics on sale. $19.88. Broke down and got one. Will have to wait to get the practice hoods. The friends of mine that own the salvage yard, had a death in the family. Will keep you all posted on my progress.
