  • Oops-think I applied wax in wrong order. What to do next...

    Hi All

Got a new Mini and the dealer said the car had the Xylon treatment on it (didn't pay for it). After about a month car looked like nothing was on it, so washed her good and applied Gold Class Liquid Wax with a orbital buffer. She shined very nicely. Afterwards, some one told me about NXT Gen Tech Wax 2. So, I applied two coats (14 days between) of the Tech Wax and the paint felt like glass and I could have used the car as mirror to shave.

However, I just noticed some other threads that state I should have done the reverse, put the Tech Wax on first. And, with all the positive reviews of the Ultimate Liquid wax, should I just somehow remove the layers of wax and start over? Not even sure how to do that...I want the MINI to have best shine possible, that lasts at least a couple of months between waxes.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

With waxes there's no real "order" you can more or less do whatever looks good to you. With paint correction it's very linear (step 1, step 2, etc) But wax is very much personal preference.

    Hope that helps

You didn't do anything wrong at all. The main reason people apply NXT 2.0 wax on first is it's a synthetic sealant which creates a nice strong bond that can hold up for a good amount of time, thus creating a more suitable base for your next layer (which is optional) whether it be a sealant or a traditional wax. People like to apply a more traditional wax such as Gold Class Liquid because it has a different look (deeper/wetter) than just a sealant. I think after 14 days that first layer of wax was already well bonded and the addition of NXT 2.0 was a huge help. So all in all, you're safe.

Awesome. Thanks for the information. Funny, how you can get addicted to washing and wax your car. Now that I seen what it looks like, I can't go back!
