  • Whats up with this Meguiars two step polishing ?

Went to the auto detailing supplier demonstration last week and they showed us Meguiars two step polisher, I forgot exactly what the name of it. But it was a kit of two small bottles and the pad, One bottle was pink and the final step which was a purple small bottle. This is the they said, now you dont need those three step compounds toss them out once your finished with them, these are the new only 2 step and time saving paint restoration kit. Is this as good ? say I was to pain perfect a ferrari or lamborghini, would these two step paint restoration kit work as good ?

Used with dual actions polishers but offers defect removal similar to rotary buffers.
It works best on factory paints.

Re: Whats up with this Meguiars two step polishing ?

I would say the real part of the system that makes it so amazing is the correction pads combined with the correction compound
the wax is good but to be honest not anything earth shattering, at least in my experience

Look at Detailing.com, my go to shop and they stock pretty the entire Meguiar's line with good prices

I am not sure about holograms but I would think the system would, as my understanding of holograms are concentrated scratching and imperfections

Here are some reflection shots I got off my car
This is a single stage white paint that is close to 20 years old

DA Microfiber Correction System works with all variable speed dual action polishers, like Meguiar's G110v2, Griot's Garage 6", Porter Cable. The defect removal using D300 Correction Compound and microfiber cutting disc is very impressive indeed. Holograms and swirls are no match for this combo. D301 Finishing Wax offers protection durability similar to M26 High Tech Yellow Wax.

As The System is rather designed for fast high volume detailing, not high end detailing, you could alter it to fit your needs if needed: use D300 Correction Compound/ MF cutting disc for initial cut and then follow with M205 Ultra Finishing Polish/ foam polishing or finishing pad and your favorite wax/ sealant/ foam finishing pad.

D301 Finishing Wax/ MF finishing disc can be used as mild defect removal 1-step approach (D301 is a cleaner/ wax).

Re: Whats up with this Meguiars two step polishing ?

What you saw, as you now know, is our DA Microfiber Correction System. But is it suitable for use on high end cars? Well, is this high end enough for you? By the way, Motor Trend Classic Magazine was on hand that day and did a nice write up on the day.

OK, enough of that, let's get down to brass tacks here. First off, you should know that this system is really designed for high volume reconditioning facilities and not concours level detailing. It loves hard paint and it can do some fantastic correction, but how the paint responds and what you're ultimately looking to get out of the project will determine whether you use nothing but the two steps of the system, or you mix some other products and processes into the mix. Since the cutting compound and cutting disc are still being used on a DA you still have that inherent safety factor of the DA. For high volume reconditioning facilities this means a total novice can do high level correction work without having to be taught how to use a rotary, which is a much, much longer learning process than learning DA basics. And rotary basics isn't good enough to cut someone loose with, especially on expensive vehicles.

But for guys skilled with a rotary this system can still fit into their arsenal. No sling, so no clean up after the fact. No holograms, so a follow up finishing polish is a quick and easy process - or just the D301 Finishing Wax that's part of the two step system. And D301 goes on crazy fast and wipes off even faster - it's probably going to be the easiest wipe off wax you've ever used. For highly skilled detailers looking to take a finish to the max, you may find that the D300 Correction Compound on the cutting disc gives you all the correction you need, but you want a bit more than the D301 finishes off with. Fine, we understand that. It's actually quite common for guys to follow the D300 with a finishing polish like M205 on a foam finishing pad, and then top with their favorite sealant, carnauba, or combination of the two.

How you work this, or any other, product into your mix is going to depend on the task at hand. For a very high end concours finish you may only use part of it. But for those cases where a customer is only willing to pay for a two step process, this two step can knock their socks off. And it will let you get the job done in less time with excellent results. Win win.
