  • Removing NXT

Ok, next question. I have 2 coats of NXT on my car at the moment. I need to touch up some spots, but I'm getting the impression the polymers in NXT bonds to paint more than any traditional wax. So for these spots I need to touch up will the standard 50/50 mix of rubbing alcohol/water work to remove it or is there a special procedure? I also have multi purpose cleaner plus at my disposal. I know it has a dillution that is supposed to be used for de-waxing. Thanks.

What are you going to use to "touch up" the spots with? If it is a paint cleaner/swirl remover I think that will take care of the NXT.

I don't use alcohol on my car, just my 2 cents.

What do you mean by touching up?

Sorry, touch up paint... My car is a magnet for rock chips. I finally got a small bottle of custom matched touch up paint for it. The manufacturer's paint didn't match correctly so I've been putting it off until now.

          OT here...

I notice that it's a Honda... the color wouldn't be Firepepper Red would it? If so, we have the same problem with my wife's accord that is FP Red. The touchup paint isn't worth a lick! Horrible match.

No it's New Formula Red. Japanese built Honda color. They use the same color on the S2000 and the NSX. I just wish I could afford the collection of the three.
I'm trying to figure out if I should attempt to remove it from the one spot I've tried touching up already. It's probably low enough to build up on top of though. Anyways, yeah Honda's touchup is way too orange. Funny you said you had problems with a different red color too because a friend has a yellow S2000 and the Honda touchup paint for his is actually a really good match, and it's a pearl too. So I guess Honda just hasn't figured out how to match reds.

              Hi Rick,

I'll send out an e-mail to see if there is a recommended method of cleaning the finish in preperation of touch-up paint.

I was told any good quality All Purpose Cleaner should work. An example would be D-11 All Purpose Cleaner/Degreaser dilluted to the appropriate dillution level of 4:1

Wouldn't also a good mild dishwashing liquid soap do the trick?...like Dawn....my 2cents....

I would also like to strip my car and redo the finish, I want to get it straight this time....

Thanks again Mike! I've got a gallon of all purpose cleaner plus so I'll give it a try. It says on it dillute 64:1 for exterior dewaxing. I just wasn't sure if NXT's polymers would bond harder than anything else or not.

                        HEK,
Yes dish soap *would* work, but there's no way I will ever take dish soap to my precious car. It is way too harsh and will oxidize paint over time. Besides, this is only a very tiny isolated area I need to do this on. Maybe the size of the head of a q-tip.
                        Later,

I can't remember where the thread is, but about a month or so ago, we were going to do an extreme makeover on Lt1Corvette black Corvette. Before we did this, he waxed his Corvette with NXT Tech Wax, two coats I think.

He ruined my ability to take good before pictures because the black paint looked so good!

I had him go home and wash the car with Dawn and actually asked him to be kind of aggressive because I wanted the black paint dulled down and hazed out again for the before pictures.

When he brought the car back, it still looked great!

We ended up chemically stripping it the wax off with 2-3 different chemicals to get the wax off.

NXT Tech Wax is water and detergent resistant. You'll often read people posting questions about how to wash out their foam applicator pads stating that their problem is that they cannot get the wax out of the pad using dish soap and aggressive washing under running water.
