  • Success!!FINALLY!!!

First let me say Thank You to Tim at Customer Care for listening and helping me find a solution to my issues with Ultimate Wax liquid, I was beginning to think no one over there understood the word "smearing". The solution was to switch over to the paste vesion and what a difference it made! Readers digest version: UWL was not drying or curing even after a weeks time regardless of technique or weather conditions. Called Meguiars and after speaking with Tim he recommended a switch to the paste and explained why. I awaited the free product he sent and removed the applied liquid wax from the car. Paste wax arrived and results were just what I anticipated,TERRIFIC!! Went on incredibly easy and thin to where I had to use my work light to be sure I didn't miss a spot. Removal was near effortless and left a slick hard finish with NO SMEARING!! Here's a few pictures from last Sunday. Sorry for the lack of clear sunshots, clouds started rolling in before I got outside. Once again many thanks to Tim.

Wow that looks great. What was your application process with the paste?

Did you use the Ultimate Quick Wax?
I thought you used The Ultimate Wax Paste.

BTW - What were the reasons he gave for the liquid "smearing" and why switch to the paste?

            Hey Merlin

I think you quoted the wrong post Mongoose has used Ultimate Paste Wax on his 'I think its a Pontiac'. I am yet to try the Quik Wax version, we cant get the Ultimate Wax in the UK i'm sorry to say.

              My Bad...thanks for clarifying

I'd still like to know why, in this case, Ultimate Wax paste was suggested instead of Ultimate Wax liquid?

If you reread Mongoose's post you will realize the reason for this thread was his difficulty in removing UWL (Ultimate Wax Liquid). Tim sent him the paste version of Ultimate Wax in hopes he would have a much better experience.

                  Re: Success!!FINALLY!!!

The problem was that after the wax was buffed off you could see it actually smear like a greasy film even after the car sat for a week, which indicated to me it had not cured/hardened/bonded even after properly preparing the surface. Possible causes thrown around were the wax was exposed to freezing temps during shipment (came from ADS in AZ in January),climate (application was done in a heated shop) and technique(application was by both hand and with d/a) which were all addressed so this route was chosen and paid off. I've always been a liquid wax fan on this particular car but after this round with UW and similar problems with NXT2.0 previously I'll stick with the paste on this one.

                      Nice even deep gloss look!!
I experimented with the Ultimate Liquid wax in 56 degree weather in my garage.
I did one side of black vehicle with G100 polisher, and the other side by hand.
Personally,I like the way it goes on with the G100,seems to go on nice ,thin, and even
I waited 10 minutes and buffed off by hand.
Both sides came out streak free, and smear free.
Surface seemed to have a very even deep gloss look to it also!
I think you were right , your product may have been affected by temperature change.
I did a finger smear test prior to removal ,and product still had a bit of smear to it but I buffed it off anyway and it turned out great!

                        Re: Success!!FINALLY!!!

Glad to see you had great results, seems like I'm the only one here that didn't. Anyway, I'm going to hang on to the rest of the bottle in case I get the chance to try it on another car. Tim mentioned something about the condition of the paint possibly being an issue as well so who knows...mine being in very good shape makes me wonder.

Yes, that is correct. In this case a paint in great condition and regularly/well maintained will be more prone to experience the issues you are having.

Why is that exactly? I would think it would be the opposite.

I had a similar experience with the liquid version as Mongoose had - but I don't want to rush to judgment. I'll wait in the meantime for springtime to do a proper clean up and detail. But I did buy the paste version to have on hand, just in case.

                              Thanks for the info Mongoose.
