  • APC safe on wheels?

I was using APC diluted to 4:1 on my wheel wells the other day and just went ahead and sprayed the wheels and used a wheel brush on them and I have never seen them so shiny. I have been using megs hot rims. They are factory clear coated aluminum wheels. Is it safe to use apc on wheels and if so should I change the dilution to make it safe if it isnt already?

I would want to go back to 8-10:1 as much as possible.

The only thing I am not sure about is if the lubrication is the same. I seem to recall hearing that the Hot Rims will have some lubrication to avoid scratching clear coats, etc like a soap would. Not sure if the APC will have that or not.

APC should be safe for factory clear coated aluminum wheels.

I have been using APC+ (at 4:1 and 10:1 dilution) on my factory clear coated wheels without any problems for the past 2 years.

        APC rocks for wheels.

        I use 5:1, all good!

All Purpose Cleaner D101 is absolutely safe on wheelsl if applied at 4:1 on a cool wheel. Most professional All Wheel Cleaners are in the alkaline family with a pH of 10-13.5. Alkaline wheel cleaners typically require agitation for them to work properly. This can be accomplished through the use of a flagged bristle brush (Soft to the touch) or through a high pressure (pressure washer).

If you do use All Purpose Cleaner or APC+, agitation will provide the best results.

But you guys probably already new that.....

Not really. Some people expect APC and other products to work like caustic soda. I personally like the least aggressive approach Meguiar's takes with many of the products. Allowing the products to dwell a little bit, or a little bit of agitation is typically all that is required. Much better than using products that are potentially harmful (at least in my opinion). To me... the Detailer line strikes the perfect balance between safe and effective.

Bill, you are 100% correct.... As we always say at Meguiar's....always use the least aggressive method. It is much easier to make products with strong acids / alkalines which clean very well but may also contribute to surface degredation. We find the right balance between user & surface safety , yet provide effective cleaning power. Excellent point, dwell time is always a great way tom improve a cleaners capability...just don't let the product dry on the surface. When cleaning wheels it is recommended to do one cool wheel at a time.

I regularly use apc @ 10:1 on wheels. Never had a problem.
