I finally tried out this kit about a month ago. It was just so-so in my opinion... It was very streaky and not very easy to work with. It did not seem to remove any of the larger swirls and I don't think it really looked any better than when I used a ColorX/NXT 2.0 combo. However, it sure did a great job staining my yellow Supreme Shine microfibers!

I would recommend it only as a temp fix in-between true paint correction. If you do use it, I found the instructions to be silly and messy - there is no need to spray the black detailer everywhere when removing the cleaner or wax.

I have SwirlX and Ultimate Compound, but have been waiting to save for a DA. Hopefully I will get the DA by mid June and have nothing to hide!

I have a black 2004 Trailblazer that has NEVER been detailed or anything. The lady I bought it from just washed it all the time, but that's it. So I decided to try to wash it and clay-bar it to get it looking nice. I tried the Ice Clay Kit, which worked well (the clay bar works ten million times better than the liquid clay) followed the by the Black Box. The Black Box product works ok, but I think it works as well as any other wax. I wasn't happy with the way it looked after I was done working on one section, so I redid with some Gold Class stuff I have. It looks a lot better now, though it's true that cleaning it like this really brings up lots of imperfections.

Hello all, just wanted to throw my two cents into the mix about this product. I read most of the post about it and everyone seems to be an expert on what they dot like about turtle wax and to tell you the truth I love MEG products just as much as anyone here, but I think TW really did a good job on the black box line. Now I know I might not have as much experience as the next guy here in detailing vehicles, but I have enough to tell you that this product is GOOD!! I tried it today for the first time on my wifes black millenia it did a great job. the paint looks flawless and the majority of the swirls and scratches came off. The only drawback from this is that now most of the really deep dings and scratches and dents are super noticeable because of the paints new found luster and shine. It's a pretty simple process and takes about 3 hours. Now I know this is a Meguiars site and i'm here boasting about a non meguiars product but believe me from the Meguiars gold carwash that i used to wash the car first to the detailing sponges and spray's i used after. None of this cars beauty would have came back with out colaborations from both products. in short TW's Black Box gets two thumbs from me.

I must agree with you. i've picked up the black box at the local pepboys. i tried it out today and the results were amazing... I've have tried many different products before, doing trials and errors... I have a black honda civic and a black honda s2000. I would have to say that i have never seen my car's paint so deep and rich after applying the product... i didn't use just those products that came with the black box though. I've also use the swirl removal from meguiars and the polish from TW before putting on the black wax. then i wiped it down again with the detailer. the result was incredible. I will try to take pictures in the morning and show you guys the results.

I have nothing against Turtle Wax myself, it just seems to me that Turtle Wax is more "old school", and more suited to the average Joe who just wants to take care of his car but isn't really an enthusiast. Don't get me wrong, I think Turtle Wax makes some good products, I just think Meguiar's is better. Just my two cents.

It would seem that Turtle Wax is marketing this product to people who want a quick and easy appearance fix for their black cars. Lots of folks are fine with just masking things, and lots of folks aren't as Car Crazy as MOL members are. I really doubt this new Turtle Wax product is marketed towards the truly picky individual who won't settle for anything but a flawless finish. That doesn't make it a bad product, but it sure sounds like a shortcut to just a (very) temporary fix.

I think Mike is completely right on this. One thing I also believe is that you get a lot of people who go to their local auto parts store or Wally World and look for something to "detail" their car with, having no knowledge on the subject other than, I need to put wax on my car.

When these people see products labeled as "ICE" or the "Black Box" they look "cool" and "novel". Wow it is a completely clear product or a black product, I'm going to try that because it looks appealing.

In a way they are targeting non car crazy people not based off of what their car will look like, but more so what their product looks like and the vibe it gives these people.

I have not used the Black Box from Turtle Wax although I have seen it. I have, however, used Turtle Wax's ColorRX that was around around the early 2000's. The "chipstick" was actually a pretty brilliant idea and the wax worked fairly well.

What I recall of the wax was that it was filler heavy and added a fair amount of depth to the paint. In short, I liked it. The problem I found though was that it didn't last for to long and the fillers from the wax and the stick would eventually fade away.

I would think that this product, for many consumers, would be a very good product.

It's perfectly fine to bring up any non-Meguiar's product for discussion as long it complies with our forum rules and the product is discussed in a way that avoids bashing the product, the company and any person.

As for the idea of a colored wax, since most cars have a clear coat finish it's hard to understand how it's going to benefit the paint. Joe did post in the thread linked on the first page of this thread how he used a colored wax to his customer's benefit one time to mask rock chips on a black car...

Someone needs to take one for the team... then post their review...

If we can all pitch in one dollar im sure we can get someone to try it out.

I saw it at autozone on my hunt for swirlx and ultimate compound, but i thought it was a gimmicky product like the color wax line they have. try searching the internet for more reviews im sure it'll be any day now before it goes on the bigger detailing forums

My guess is he meant that there's an association between the color of the bottles as UQD comes in a black bottle.

As I am new here, I don't mean to post any off-topic-non-Meguiar's-questions, but I am curious as to any credentials this product may have... I am skeptical of tinted waxes and it seems more like a cover up than a true solution like the Meg 5 step process...

It's perfectly fine to bring up any non-Meguiar's product for discussion as long it complies with our forum rules and the product is discussed in a way that avoids bashing the product, the company and any person.
