  • Tire Shine questions

I have been using your endurance high gloss tire shine and loved the results. It will stand up to anything and everything you can throw at it. The only problem is when it is time to wash again I notice that the tires have a film on them that gets all in my brushes and has even slung into the fender wells. This after the vehicle wasn't drove until the following morning after application. I had to use Goo Gone to get some of it off.

I then tried the hot shine tire spray and liked the look of it even though it wasn't as shiny but it didn't leave no residue behind. I did notice the next day it rained (Monday) and poof it is gone. The other lasted weeks through a couple of rains.

My question is does Meguiar's make a product that has the longevity and gloss of the endurance but without the residue of the hot shine?

    Re: Tire Shine questions

I like using the waterbase product. Even though it doesn't last long it still makes it easy for me to clean up and re-apply. Since I wash my car once a week I simply apply a new coat without the mess of having to clean up the sludge left behind by thicker product. Maybe what you can try is apply the Endurance let it sit while you clean up your interior or somethinhg then wipe it off with an old microfiber towel. May last you longer than the waterbased without the sludge being slung out all over the place. Just a thought.

i like that idea. i would say what's being slung off is excess product. i would try a quick wipe down as a very last step after you've finished everything else.

Let me just clarify. The spray is waterbased and the endurance is oil based? I do use a lot of both as I apply 2 coats of each. The final step I do is a wipe down. Is the NXT shinier than the hot shine?

If you are really coating a lot on, there is also the possibility of the tires needing a good cleaning every so often to remove old dirt/buildup.

That may cut down your sling a little bit.

What were you cleaning with/using so far, since your brushes were getting gunked up?

If you want something that lasts a long time no matter what you throw at it... the trade off is something that won't wash off or come off easily. (Remember, you wanted something that lasts a long time...)

Here's something I've noticed with detailing enthusiasts... the longer they do their own work, the more likely they are to switch to a tire dressing that doesn't last a long time and if fact can be easily removed and replaced. This would be water-based products like M40 or Hyper-Dressing.

These two products will give you more of a deep, dark matte finish, (like rubber looks like when its new/original), and will wash off more easily than a long lasting product. The key thing about this is since detailing enthusiasts tend to maintain their cars more often they like the fact they can remove and re-apply a dressing and avoid some of the issues that a long lasting dressing brings up.

One thing for sure, it's hard to beat the convenience of an aerosol applied dressing for getting into all the design elements of some tires. You can get around this by applying a water based dressing with a paint brush or spray on first and spread with a paint brush or an applicator of some type.

These are going on my 1975 GMC Jimmy in the next few weeks and this is a lot of rubber to keep dressed.

The plan is to use Hyper-Dressing at 4:1 to maintain and APC at 10:1 to clean

            Hyper-Dressing

Until now, the industry average for diluting water based dressings has been one to one or ready-to-use. Meguiar's Hyper-Dressing dilutes up to four to one, varying the gloss from high to satin. One product, multiple uses...a winning combination for every professional and an industry first.

              Mike,

Those are seriously BIG tires! One thing we use to quickly dress the tires are wheel covers that shield the metal from the tire dressing. They come in various sizes with a handle in the middle. (Your wheels are probably big enough you could use a garbage can lid!) It makes quick work to cover the metal, spray the dressing and do a quick wipe off of the excess.

I agree that it's easier to re-apply a water based product more frequently, than to clean off the sling that is inevitable with an oil or gel based dressing.

With any dressing I use on the wheels I use Dawn dish washing detergent to clean my wheels. I know it takes the wax off(i never wax the wheels)but it takes all the dressing and brake dust of easy. When done cleaning the car and dressing the tires I've been using the QWD to wipe the wheels off. They always look like new.

                  Re: Tire Shine questions

For a very long time whenever I use the Endurance Gel The last thing I do is take a clean foam tire applicator and remove any excess. This has greatly reduced the amount of sling I get. I think its a little step but a very important step if using the gel.

I have been cleaning with BRAND X Tire and Rubber Cleaner. I have also used a strong concentration of car wash and water to see if I get different results to no avail. I have managed to remove the gunk on my brushes by spraying them with wheel cleaner and rubbing on my driveway.

I am wanting to try the APC and Hyper Dressing. I suppose the APC will remove almost anything on the tires and I could use a 1:1 ratio of the Hyper Dressing. Can it be mixed in a spray bottle or will it seperate out?

When I first started "detailing" and not just adding water and moving the dirt around I used the Endurance High Gloss and immediately drove away and when I got back home the side of my white truck was covered in purple. I have thus changed my approach and let it dry overnight and noticed no more sling on the paint but only notice the sling under the fender wells when I begin my cleaning routine.

                      Re: Tire Shine questions

I like spraying APC on the tire and agitating with a brush.

Meguiars actualy sells labeled spray bottles for those products, and Rick at ADS also sells sample sizes, so you wouldnt be startng with the full gallon, at least for the dressing. The APC definately works.

Once they are diluted, they wont seperate, at least not over normal time frames of weeks/months.

                        Re: Tire Shine questions

I just started using NXT Spray. I let it dry overnight. No sling. No problems.
I like the shine and it's much improved from Megs Tire Foam. I guess will see how much I like it when I clean the tires again....

I used the last of my Tire Foam on my neighbor's Chevy truck. Glad to me able to move on.
