  • what comes first?

Just got my order from Meguiar's....
Just have a little question, is this the correct order:

    Washing-->clay-->scratchX-->polish-->wax
    Then UQD for maintaining
    ?

Or should I use Scratchx first, and then clay?

    Thanks!

These rich polishing oils help to create a high gloss finish.

Different companies use different terms, so it can get a bit confusing. For Meguairs, a glaze and a polish are the same thing, that is oils that will help the paint look better and stay healthy.

A protectant could be anything... something that protects. Meguiars tends to use the term protectant with things like vinyl and rubber protectants.

Also which is the correct way of working:

Option 1: wash the whole car, clay the whole car, scratchX on the whole car......and so on...

Option 2: wash the whole car, clay the hood, scratchx on hood.....then move on to another panel, clay it, scratchx, polish so on...one panel by another

                  ?

                        Re: what comes first?

Well... once the chicken is deep fried and covered in sauce....

                        1. Wash and clay the whole car.

                        2. If you have an entire car to ScratchX, I would not try to do it all in one day. It is very tiring to use ScratchX, and your work will only suffer as a result. I would tend to ScratchX a panel or two a day, and get those 2 panels polished and waxed.

Depending on how much time I had available, I might actually wash, clay, cleaner/wax the entire car, then come back and focus on my panel or two with the ScratchX/polish/wax. At least that way the rest of the paint is cleaned and waxed a bit if it will take me a couple weeks to ScratchX everything.

I have a lots of time for this job, the entire saturday...

Is there a How-to thread for the scratchX ? I don't understand why it should take longer then polishing the whole car\waxing the whole car, for example...

                            Ok found this

But still have a few questions:

                            1. Will 1 scratchx be enough for the whole car? (vw.corrado in this case, not too big)
                            2. is it normal to do a complete car using scratcx, or should I focus on specific areas?
                            3. is it normal to see the car's color on my pad?

                              Re: what comes first?

The thing with ScratchX is that it is very tiring. You have to work in roughly 1 foot x 1 foot squares, and work in a couple applications of the product with a fair bit of passion. A fair bit of passion means the car should almost be rocking on the springs as you work it in.

So after a panel or two, most folks are tired, and start working the product in less, and then the panels they do later dont look as good as the panels they did first, and so it was basically a waste of time since they have to redo those panels anyway.

You can do a search in google videos, and there is a short video of Mike using ScratchX.

                              As for your other questions:
                              1. Hard to say... I'd probably get 2.
                              2. Well, ScratchX can be used both ways, though as mentioned above, it ***** to do a whole car.
                              3. If your car is single stage paint, then yes.
