The one that I'll miss is the MPPC. That's the best heavy duty non-abrasive paint cleaner out there, bar none. I hope there's something coming to replace it.
Mike, I have some #2 Fine Cut that I bought to use with the rotary. Care to comment on it? I was going to use it at Detail Day on single stage paints.
As the light changed from red to green to yellow and back to red again, I sat there thinking about life. Was it nothing more than a bunch of honking and yelling? Sometimes it seemed that way.
Originally posted by Aurora40 Don't you remember Barry saying #16 wouldn't be going anywhere? I do. I like #16. It's not the ultimate appearance wax, but it does look good and lasts really well. Plus it's cheap and fairly easy to use.
Hi Aurora40,
I remember also when Scottwax asked this question, it was on either Friday, May 7th, or Saturday, May 8th, 2004. At this time, when Barry answered this question, there were no plans on discontinuing #16 Professional Paste Wax and it's highly likely that the formula had not even been visited by R&D yet.
It's hard to believe it's almost been a year since the first Autopia Detail Day at Meguiar's.

Hi Tom,
Here are the suggested product to use in place of the discontinued products.
#2 substitute either #82 or #83
#16 substitute new NXT Tech Wax Paste
#96 substitute Gold Class Leather Cleaner and Conditioner
#97 substitute either Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner or ScratchX
#98 substitute NXT Tech Wax Liquid

Tom
#2 Fine Cut Cleaner is a very wet product, that is it has a very liquid consistency. It works great with either the W-8006 or the W-8000 foam pad.
That said, many of the products in the 80's series will work just as good and even better on these types of paint. Besides the recommended #82 Swirl Free Polish, the #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish, both the #9 Swirl Remover 2.0 and the #80 Speed Glaze all work really well on older single stage finishes.

I would consider #80 to be a good replacement for MPPC when both products are used with the Dual Action Polisher. Plus the #80 adds polishing oils so it can save 1 step on paint that is not black.
Scratch X works great by hand. It is time consuming, but I don't plan on doing my entire car with it. That's when it's time to use the DA along with #80.
#83 is the best option for more stubborn swirls and scratches that MPPC couldn't remove.
Tech Wax is a very good substitute for MPPP. It is easier to use, lasts just about as long, is better at filling swirls, and gives a little bit better gloss. You do lose the anti-static properties of MPPP though.
I still have 2 bottles of MPPP that are unopened. Could these be a collector's item someday? I also have an unopened bottle of Vibrant Paint Shield.
It's wholly synthetic while #16 is an old style Carnauba blend. Its very "oldness" is what was so endearing about it -- from looks to application to smell.
IMO, the closest thing in appearance, from Meguiar's, to #16 is the NXT Tech Wax. #26 also comes close but adds darkening, and doesn't match #16's legendary durability or beading. No other Meguiar's product beads as well as #16.
#16 was/is a great product and I for one am happy that I have obtained enough #16 to last me about 20 years.
If you like #16, I'd suggest you stock up now. The product will keep if stored in a cool location. I vacu-sealed mine.
I believe this is only the beginning of our loss of favorite products. The EPA and CCAB will only be be more restrictive in its rules in the future.
Will the replacement products be as good? Only time will tell. Clearly the paint on today's cars is not as good as solvent based paint used to be. Most with new cars will relate to how brittle and prone to chip today's paint is and how prevalent orange peel has become.
I fear that frequently, the ingredients used in the new products are trade offs to meet the new requirements and will not perform as good as those of the past.
Originally posted by benhui86 isnt body scrub even weaker than scratch X? and isnt MPPC more powerful than scratch X?....
Those are good questions. One of the customer service techs told me that Body Scrub was just one step below MPPC in aggressiveness. That sure is an aggressive name for a product.
I found MPPC applied by hand was more aggressive over a short time period of application than Scratch X. If you work Scratch X like Mike recommends, it works quite well. So in that respect it is good for spot repairs. Normally when I use MPPC, I use the G-100, then it is just a step below #83 so it is much more aggressive than Scratch X.
Originally posted by RamAirV1 Is the Body Scrub cleaner still available? If so, it may also be a good substitute for MPPC.

A1016 Clear Coat Body Scrub has also been discontinued. The product can be purchased by calling the Customer Care Center to place your order. However, once the current inventory has been depleted, it will no longer be available.
