      So now the question is, does meguiar's have a plan in the works to create a VOC compliant version of #16 for those in the market for a carnauba topper?

          Hi travisdecpn,

          I would just like to point out that Meguiar's doesn't actully make any waxes based soley on Carnauba, but instead are blended waxes combining the best features of many ingredients including Carnauba.

          From Meguiar's *NEW* FAQ

          6. Are polymer sealants better than traditional carnauba waxes?

          That depends on how you define the word "better".

          If you're looking for a highly water-resistant, detergent resistant, long lasting protectant, then a premium quality polymer sealant, like Meguiar's new NXT Generation® Tech Wax, or our traditional M-20 Polymer Sealant, is better than traditional Carnauba based waxes.

          Here at Meguiar's we don't make a wax based solely on pure Carnauba. All Meguiar's waxes are blended waxes that combine multiple ingredients for both:

          * Beauty characteristics
          * Protection characteristics

          By blending key ingredients, like the highest quality Carnauba waxes available, with the right polymers, silicones and other resins, Meguiar's can offer their customers waxes that offer the best of both worlds - Beautiful results with long lasting, durable protection.

          On the other hand, for our customers looking for a pure synthetic paint protectant, Meguiar's has a wax for you too. Meguiar's new NXT Generation® Tech Wax is a completely new formula based upon cutting-edge polymer technology.

          To accommodate the wide variety of different types of automotive paints on the market, and because no two people are alike, Meguiar's offers a number of waxes that contain Carnauba for it's gloss properties, as well as synthetic polymer protectants for their excellent durability and protective properties.

          If you're looking for depth of color, high gloss and high shine, then Meguiar's can offer you all of these features plus unbeatable, long lasting protection depending on your preference in formula: Meguiar's synthetic waxes, or our more traditional waxes that include Carnauba.

          It often comes down to,

          * You
          * Your eyes
          * Your personal preferences

          The most important thing however is to have confidence in the company whose name is on the label when it comes to providing real protection for your automotive investments.

          If you're looking for a replacement for the #16 Professional Paste Wax you might consider one of the below waxes which both come in paste versions with the #26 containing Carnauba wax.

          NEW NXT Generation Tech Wax Paste
          #26 Hi Tech Yellow Wax

            I have already stocked up on #16. It is a long time favorite of mine. The good news is that I can easily get 40-50 applications from a tin. The product stores very well. I keep my cache of tins individually vacuum sealed with a food saver. I store them in a cool place. I believe I have enough to last me for about 20 years.

            While I will miss #96 and #97 there are other fine products available to replace them. Nothing else I've used beads as well as #16 though and that is an aspect that brought me back countless customers.

            RIP my good friend.

            To anyone who has not tried #16, I highly recommend searching it out quickly.

              Thanks for the response Mike, it's definitely the end of an era as #16 leaves the market. I definitely have faith in Meg's to create the best products to protect my car, so there is no doubt in my mind #26 and NXT will accomplish this.

              However, when durability is an issue, there are very few waxes that have ever rivaled #16. Being that I detail my own vehicle at least once a month, durability isn't a huge issue, but for other cars I like to know that what I put on is going to stay for awhile.

              All in all, it's like they say, all good things must come to an end, and 51 years is one awesome run. I'm still kind of sad that it's not getting reformulated, but I understand that sometimes it's just not part of the overall plan.

                Well, the new VOC laws are either a tribute to the effectiveness of other emissions controls, which have reduced other emissions to a level low enough for the EPA to worry about cans of wax that probably 2% of the population uses (as opposed to the 98% that drive around with a huge vat of VOC's, otherwise known as the tank of gasoline in your car), or it's a tribute to the idiocy of the EPA, who's worried about a few cans of wax in the sea of VOC's and other consumer products out there.

                I would be willing to lay odds that a program to repair fuel leaks in cars (or gas station tanks) would be ten times as effective as banning certain car waxes. What am I talking about? With 200 million cars on the road here, how many have un-tightened gas caps as we speak? A half a percent? That would mean there are a million loose gas caps out there...I would bet that's a LOT more VOC's than all the #2, 16, MPPC, MPPP, and MPLC put together.

                Just MHO. Sorry for the rant.

                  I wonder what announcing this now, only after production has ended, accomplished?
                  I'm not a #16 user, but isn't this clearly inconsiderate to those who are?
                  Yes, it is.

                    actually most people that use #16 already knew of its fate. It has been brought up on here and other forums many times. I don't think Meguiars is being inconsiderate at all. I am sure they have a large amount left in stock for people to get plenty on their hands before it is gone. Even at that....it wont last forever...time to change to something just as good if not way better. NXT!!!

                    I can't wait for NXT paste. If it is anything like the liquid it will rock!

                      Mike, can you give us any insight into why #16 doesn't meet the VOC requirements, but #26 does?

                        If the fine cut cleaner why not the medium and heavy cut cleaner...

                        What will take the fine cut cleaner's place or what would be the alternative to that one.

                          Has anyone tried to see the look of the NXT Paste? INteresting. Thinking of running to my local CarQuest just for #16.

                            I'm not worried except for the #16. I have 1 can left, and will just save it for some time.

                            But don't drop the #80 series or any one of them (especially #80 Speed Glaze). A good number of megs followers may be disappointed.

                              Don't you remember Barry saying #16 wouldn't be going anywhere? I do. I like #16. It's not the ultimate appearance wax, but it does look good and lasts really well. Plus it's cheap and fairly easy to use.

                              MPPP was also a nice product. It has a nice look and has good durability. It's a good all-around protectant.
