Is Swirl remover 2.0 #9 just a filler for swirls?

this is what I used (last Megs bottle on the right), didnt use the Griots garage stuff.

I used it to get rid of most of my swirls about 2-3 months ago. Now they are back.

I have only used Optimum No Rinse (ONR) and The Chemical Guys wash mit:

with Cobra waffle weave towels to dry.

Is this just a filler? I now have Megs 105/205 combo, and will be using the combo to get rid of these swirls that appear to have been just covered up....

When used correctly, M09 Swirl Remover 2.0 will remove swirls and scratches.

Re: Swirl Remover 2.0 #9 just a filler?

      Couple thoughts...

For starters, no, it is NOT "just a filler," it is definitely a polish, albeit a very mild one.

That said, it can in some cases also fill light swirls due to the rich polish it is. But, had you "just filled" swirls, they would have re-appeared after one wash, not 2-3 months.

Next point, even with the best of methods and technique, it is virtually (if not completely) impossible not to create some swirls any time the vehicle is touched. On anything other than a dedicated show car, expecting a 100% swirl-free finish 100% of the time really isn't realistic.

Now, if you need to polish it again, I suggest the least aggressive method that can get the job done. If Swirl Remover worked before, then try either that or M205. M105 is VERY aggressive and would only be needed for SEVERE swirls from very improper technique.

I second that......took all the swirls out of my wifes Suby. What color is your car?
        Black......the ONLY color!

Mark Kleis, should relate to this, its a Competition Orange SVT Focus

im sure I used it correctly...

*Edit - The link had bad language

          this pretty much outlines it.

Orange pad from griots garage with a Griots dual action polisher, red pad to apply the #26

The car only got washed 6-8 times during this time, due to the cold weather and snow (yes, freeking snow in TEXAS!?!) But I always kept the road grime washed off (just rinsed off, not "washed")

I had that thing sparkling, but the whole car is covered in swirls again, except for the Carbon Fiber.

Maybe because I didnt put a sealant on before the wax? would that have helped?

Next step is Megs 205, with grey, white or green pad...then put a coat or two of Blackfire Wet Diamond on it, as it is really supposed to make bright colors "pop"

            Hey Focus2069,

Hate to do it, but the link had some foul language (posted by others, not you), and in addition to that we ask that new members hit 30 posts before posting hyperlinks.

If it isn't too much trouble, try copy and pasting the code from the posts on FocalJet and then posting it here... it might work

As for the situation, I think you are getting normal and to be expected light swirls from washing. Even the best products and techniques will result in *some* level of swirling over time.

            Sweet ride by the way!

Thats odd, Focaljet has swear filters...hrm....oh well, sorry about the hyperlink thing.

Anyhow, it just seems like there are ALOT of swirls for the way I take care of my car, it annoys and aggravates me that they appeared again, this quick. I expected swirls, as its a daily driver, but there are just waaaaay too many for my liking....seems like there are MORE now than when I polished it

Anyhow, copy and paste of the thread on Focaljet:

So, got some new toys in to play with...

So I figured I would give it a shot.
Big thanks to Brent (Counterfiend) and his detailing knowledge.
              BEFORE...nice and swirly! yey!

Even the dog was like...whats that?

Clayed it first....not very contaminated, I didnt think it was, but its never been clayed before since Ive owned it...

              After the Megs swirl remover:
this pad is supposed to be bright orange....

And after the Megiuars Hi-Tech number 26 (smells like banana pudding, lol)

              God, im an ugly mofo...

              With flash:

              Without flash:

A HELLUVA lot less swirls now...still a few deeper ones, but im not using a rotary just yet...

Overall, im happy with the results...now onto doing the wheels/tires/windows.

Cant wait to do the wifes van...that should take like 2 days...

                Car looks great!

Have you considered using a conventional wash with the 2BM instead of the ONR? IMO That should help reduce the amount of wash induced swirls your are getting.

I used Megs Deep cyrstal car wash before I discovered ONR (ONR cut my wash and dry time by 2/3, its amazing). ONR is also used by most detailers on Autopia and Autogeek, it seems, so I do not think the ONR is causing the swirls.

I was using a shaggy type MF wash media (you can see it in one of the bins I have a picture of), then switched to that Chmical Guys one that I put a pic of in the first post...I wonder if that is the culprit....

I always use the 2 bucket method, with grit guards.

ONR when used correctly will not cause swirls. I just washed my WRX recently after it rained on. First I thought, "maybe I should just do a standard wash" but it was too cold outside. So I washed with ONR and voila. Works great. I wish Meguiar's steps up to the plate to create something similar or BETTER than ONR.

It's open for debate, but IMO a conventional wash will be much less likely to induce any type of marring over ONR. I'm now on my second gallan of ONR, and while I do like it, a conventional wash is simply better when it comes down to a good safe cleaning.

Then why do so many detailers use it, if there is more risk of swirls?

I sort of agree. I think ONR is great for detailing because more often than not we will Clay and clean the paint with a compound or polish anyway.

But I notice that ONR isn't that great on removing embedded dirt. I ONR'd my wife's car today and for some reason it just didn't look clean.

Traditional soaps like Gold Class will remove and clean any grease, grime and dirt.

So I always try to weigh whether or not to use ONR or a traditional wash. I find myself just choosing it depending on the temperature outside.

However, washing with ONR will only take me 15 minutes maximum to wash and dry, while a traditional wash will take up to 30-40.

Overall I think everyone should just have both ONR and traditional soaps to be flexible.

Convenience. It cuts down on a lot of time and if the weather outside is severely cold or hot, then using ONR in the garage is a god send. And as I've said when ONR used correctly, it shouldn't cause swirls.
