My girls friends dad has asked me for some help with restoring a I believe its a 1958 travel trailer that was sitting in the mojave desert for most of its life. Well the aluminum is a dark shade of gray, and thats what he has asked my help on. Im not even sure were to start with something this bad. He has tried steel wool, with little succes. I am wondering if there is something that would work better. Most of this work will be by hand is in on the trailer with the glass installed.

I know that some detailers here have worked on large vintage WWII airplanes that were made of aluminum. They used a rotary buffer, wool pads, and I believe Meguiar's Mag & Aluminum polish.
Can someone confirm which product was used with the rotary? -

Meguiar's Mag and Aluminum Polish is going to be the product of choice for this, from the Meguiar's line of products. If you are working by hand, you are going to want a lot of cotton terry applicator pads and towels. Due to the level of oxidation, it may take several applications to start to get a shine. Just rub and rub and it should start shining up after a bit!
