Re: How much cut? #49 vs #67 vs #91

    Results look great!

I have a question about fixing some light scratches on a black boat. We have a newer (2010) Moomba LSV and unfortunately last fall when I was cleaning it, the brush I was using had some dirt on it and put some light scratches on the gel coat. I ran my fingernail over them and can feel them ever so slightly but it never "catches".

I don't have many meguiars marine products at hand at the local shops so I would have to order them, thats why I wanted to check on here first. I have a PC DA and some lake country pads. I was going to get a Purple foamed wool pad for more agressive cut, but what compound would be best to tackle the slight scratches in the gelcoat. I had some Ultimate Compound (for the car) on hand that I gave a good try with, and it helped a bit at hiding the scratches but if you look real close you can still see.

    thanks.

You may not like the PFW pad on a DA as it may inflict a whole new set of swirls. That's not a knock against the pad, just that DA tools and wool pads don't tend to play together very well. You mentioned having used UC with LC pads, but what pad specifically did you use? We would recommend the heaviest foam cutting pad you have, with your PC DA set at speed 6 and quite a bit of pressure. Gel coat is so much harder than automotive paint and it generally requires some fairly substantial products to remove defects. If the UC and foam cutting pad can't get it done, you're going to have to step up to something more aggressive. Our recommendation would be M67 in the Marine/RV line if you can get it, if not then go to M105. But if you have to go online to order either one, we'd go with M67.

        Thanks Michael.

I was using the orange pad, so it looks like I could give the Yellow a try before it gets into the foamed-wool section. I will give M67 a shot. Appreciate the feedback.
