    Re: New-to-me boat question.

Well...started working on the boat today, started out with the pc and found out that just wasnt going to do the trick...so i went and bought a milwaukee rotary polisher.

Went back to the shop and threw on a cutting pad and some m49 set at about 1700ish. This wasnt strong enough to cut through the lines from the stickers so I went and got some 3m adhesive remover, that kinda did the trick but ended up going with the laquer thinner...prob not the best stuff to use on the boat but hey it worked and didnt dull it or anything.
So i went to work at it with the rotary and it pretty much evened it out enough to where if you didnt know that there was a color difference in the first place you would never know...boat still looks dull though but im assuming thats just because I have only used m49 on it, tomorrow morning I am thinking abou going over it one more time with the m49 via rotary depending on the advice you guys give me. If not ill be putting on polish.

Things I learned today from using the rotary:
    1. your always scared to burn or go to long in one spot.
    2. stuff flings everywhere...
    3. seems like the product doesnt go very far before its dry
    4. i liked it!

      Re: New-to-me boat question.

You can see the color difference I am working with here. I couldnt get a very good pic of it after I used the rotary.

Do you think it would be worth a shot wetsanding it now that I got a rotary?

Now that I look at the pic closer, towards the top-right you can kinda see the darker spot fade. thats about what it looks like.

also another question- when working with a rotary it seems like the products dries out after like two or three passes over tha same spot, do i just stop and whipe it off or keep going a little longer with the rotary?

i watched some videos but cant really tell from them.

This pic is after removing a sticker, wetsanding with 1000 grit sandpaper, and using m49 with a cutting pad via rotary @ 1750

This is a before shot of the oxidation.

This is after the same process as above minus the wetsanding.

Overall, the boat looks much better than it did but it looks like i need to even it up somehow... Remember this is my first time using a rotary so go easy on me. id rather learn on my boat then my duramax...Plus it might looks totally different in the sunlight too, it was raining today and the lighting in our shop isnt ideal for detailing.

I still need to polish and wax it though too.

Beautiful job on a beautiful boat. You'll probably get 1 - 2 more mph on the top end now!!
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.
