Re: Always Detailed: 2008 Lexus IS F

Maybe you could take a picture of the your car, fully detailed, same camera angles and lighting conditions but with Ultimate Wax and post the pics of the car just for comparison...

It's going to be hard to tell the difference! I think the biggest difference is the fact that Ultimate Wax goes on easier and comes off easier....

The whole thing...I drove PCH from San Luis Obispo up to SF, and then took it home too...

I made a short video using my new GoPro

Re: Always Detailed: 2008 Lexus IS F

So I haven't really been on the forums too much as I've picked up another hobby, and haven't been posting as much as I used to. I think I take pretty good care of my car...she gets washed every week, however, it's been 4.5 years now (96,354 miles) and I never had time to give her a 4th birthday detail. There are swirls here and there from years of ownership, and you only really see it in certain light angles. It never bothered me TOO much...but I had to do something....Looking at Marc08EX detail of the Caddy CTS-V gave me some inspriation to get up and do something.

I didn't start detailing till 4pm and ended at 3:30am. I only had Ultimate Compound, and a Porter Cable DA (Which doesn't have nearly as much power as the Meguiar's!)

Process is very simple considering the tools I have are so good (Meguiars stuff!)
              1) Meguiar's Gold Class Wash
              2) Meguiar's Detailing Clay
              3) Meguiar's Ultimate Compound (4 passes, more compound, then 4 more passes) + Meguiar's Yellow Pad 2.0. Yeah I know...that's a lot of passes, however, it got me the results I wanted AND it was all I had.
              4) Meguiar's M205 Ultra Finishing Polish + Meguiar's Black Finishing Pad 2.0
              5) Meguiar's NXT 2.0 (I had Ultimate paste, but just decided to use NXT 2.0 for whatever reason)

On to the pics! No before shots...but it pretty much had your normal swirls, some bird poop etching from last week...

Pics taken with Canon 7D, using Canon 50mm 1.8 Prime Lens

The only dust I don't mind on my car...Ultimate Compound dust...the sign of amazing things happening...

Well done! The car looks awesome. Nice reflection shots too

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Looking great Tommy!!! Excellent work! There's not a trace of a swirl in your paint. In addition, your paint looks dripping wet!!! That's the way an IS-F should look.

Nice shots too! Now you're inspiring me to do my own car as well hahaha! I need to detail my car - the swirls are driving me mad.

Re: Always Detailed: 2008 Lexus IS F

Thanks guys! There are SOME swirls left...but i got about 90-95% correction, which is good enough for me considering the car is a partial daily driver.

Is it just me or the forum is running like POO!?!?!?!? Took me like 30 minutes to post that. I also noticed that Photobucket is changing the quality of the photos! I gotta ask the mods to delete that post later so I can post up pics from a different hosting service so it retains full quality.

Are you going to chase down and remove the remaining swirls?

The forum has been running pretty slow for a couple of months now.

Being 90-95% swirl free is more than good enough, being a partial daily driver that is more than good enough plus it will be near impossible for the average person who doesn't really clean their car as much to see any swirls. I've done some fast wax (using a decent cleaner wax) where some swirls were still left and some people can't even see the swirls...

Jeez.. NOw I feel like doing a "fast exterior detail" on my car as well... More exercise for me, but I love it... Just not sure what wax to use though...

Time for another coat of wax as summer approaches. Got some inspiration and not being so lazy after I went for a refresher Detailing 101 class this weekend.

                          1. Gold class wash
                          2. Smooth surface clay the whole car
                          3. M205 + Meguiars black finishing pad
                          4. Ultimate Paste Wax.

Wow, those reflections are fantastic, Tommy! Nice to see you getting some additional inspiration from the class.

Will also be getting some additional product now too! I bought a bottle of Ultimate Quik Wax this weekend and hopefully I'll be in Irvine sometime this week and I'll drop by Detailing.com to buy Rinse Free Express Wash.

Hmm...also, I found an old bottle of NXT Spray Wax...it's probably 5 years old....any thoughts? I never really learned how to use it properly. Maybe I should RTFI....
