Wow! Great post Joe! Thanks to all those great comments on the project outcome. It was so cool to be a part of the "Team" . We were treated like rock stars up there in Seattle. Everyone at The Museum of Flight, Evan Elliot- our man on the ground who gets what needs to be done guy, the visitor coordinators, to the guys restoring the B-29...could not have been nicer! Now that the "team" has been somewhat officially named as the "Detailers of The Museum of Flight" we all hope to be going back and doing it again. We are all wondering what secondary plane will be up next?!!!

As Joe mentioned this was my third time on this project just can't seem to get enough brite work. Working along side Renny, Joe and 40 Others detailers was an honor and as hard as the work was, it was a fun time and I look forward to more large projects with this team

Politicians take note! Now you can see what a group of everyday people can accomplish in short while.And we pay Washington politicians for what?

All labor was performed without pay. 100% volunteer. I believe travel and lodging for those that had been there before was covered.

Well said...if us detail nuts can come together surely our politicians can! This was a wonderful team of professionals..all worked very hard and the ego's were all left at home. Everyone came together and made it work and did a wonderful job preserving history!

The second aircraft we shined was a B-29 Superfortress, "T-Square 54" This aircraft is the same type that dropped the atomic bombs on Japan in 1945. T-Square 54 flew over 30 missions against Japan and flew as an aerial tanker in the Korea war. Some time in the late 50's she was placed in the mojave desert as a target at China Lake gunnery range. Luckily she had been hardly affected and was rescued years later.

We found her in a desperate need of a shine.

As a finishing team was perfecting SAM970 we pulled techs from her and started them on T Square.

Guess how much fun polishing up and some times over your head is. If you guess it isn't you guessed correctly. It takes heart to muscle pass the burn and pull shine from these old aluminum panels! Other areas where just plain hard to get to and polish. How high do you think these guys are that are polishing the tail?? Higher than you would want to fall!
