  • New GMC Sierra Detail

This is a new GMC Sierra in Black that I detailed over the weekend. The owner wanted it simply clayed and waxed. After I showed him the minor swirls he gave me the green light to do what I felt was necessary to get it looking presentable.

The truck was more dusty than anything else. It doesn't look too bad from a distance.

So I started off with the wheels and tires with a traditional wash. Once they were cleaned and dried off I moved on to the truck body with some ONR. This past Saturday was up in the high 80's low 90's. I've worked on a crew cab black GMC in full sun (about 98 degrees) during summer and I'm never doing that again as long as I have the choice of course. http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36880

During the ONR spray down (you can see a bit of the heat vapors rising)

    After the wipedown

All cleaned up. (Don't mind the dungeon looking garage still in the works)
    [IMG][/IMG]

So I decided to go with the D300 and some D301 on the MF pads. Some of the streaking is from the wipe down.
    [IMG][/IMG]

All done after 7:45 hours. I finished it off with some #20

Engine was wiped down and dressed with HD
Door jambs wiped down and all wheel wells were cleaned and spray waxed on painted areas.
Interior was just wiped down with Interior quick detailer.

The owner is waiting on his shell which he wants me to go over as well. He understands that a black vehicle needs to be maintained unlike any other color so he would like to have me detail it at least twice a year.
By the way he was in awe when he saw the end results. He couldn't stop smiling which is always priceless for me. I'm scheduled to detail his daughters car this Saturday so I hope to take some pics and share with you all. As you can tell I've been lacking write ups.

    Looks amazing Jesse.

I know black GMC trucks can be a challenge at times.

    Looking forward to more writeups.

What kind of car are you doing Saturday?

Looking good Jesse! Great work! I can't believe you were able to finish that bad boy in under 8 hours... That thing has a lot of real estate!

Thanks Nick. Saturday I'm suppose to be working on a Toyota Venza with the "Blizzard Pearl" color. I'll be shampooing the carpet as well since she accidentally spilled a protein shake and it's starting to smell. Luckily the weather is a bit on the cooler side so the smell won't get as bad. I'll try and do a write up on that as well. I think I've gotten lazy on the write ups.

Thanks. I think I saved time on the wash and the fact that it was brand new. Claying was very very light and mainly on the horizontal areas. But yeah, it definitely is alot of real estate.

Those things seem to get bigger while you're working on them. I've had 3 GM extended cabs in a row, the first one was black. You can bet the last two were white. I don't know who originally coined the phrase "black isn't a color it's a part time job" but no truer words were ever expressed!

Nice job on the new truck!

It would have been cool if you would have done a test spot for him so he could see from the get go what it would turn out like. We really have to educate the public what can be accomplished with a little bit of time and the right products.

Don't know about educating public, but often tempted to tape off a 12X12 area in the middle of a panel so they can see the difference. Or for my own satisfaction, I can go "wow" all those hours were worth it.

Again, Hemin8r, nice work all those hours were worth it!!

Thanks TL. I agree that these trucks seem to get bigger as you're working on them. Just when I think I'm done I remember that I still need a tailgate to do or the top cabin or something. It's a sense of accomplishment once all is done.

Thanks David. Big trucks are very tiring to work on and when they are in need of major paint correction it's even worse. My truck is not that bad but because of the size I sometimes get a bit lazy to do a full detail on it which I will be doing soon.
