  • Yah ever seen a waxed car, son?

The results of my end-of-month car wash. This time I finally had a camera on hand to capture my work. Honestly, my poor photography skills don't quite do it justice, but I just wanted to share.

washed w/ meguiar's gold class shampoo
dried w/ viking microfiber waffle weave towel
detailed w/ meguiar's quik detailer + walmart mf towels
waxed w/ meguiar's quik wax + meguiar's supreme shine mf towels

Thanks Shawn, no I didn't clean the tires, just the rims. You can clean tires? Any product recommendations? I've never once considered that, but thanks for the great idea. It may be my next project.

Here are a couple extra shots from indoors that may better showcase the wax. I love meguiar's.

        The paint looks nice.

Getting a lot of the gunk off the tires will really help to make the car look even nicer.

I would spray them down with an APC and then scrub them with a tire brush and soap & water.

Then apply a dressing of your choice.

Thanks guys. I found some Formula 409 and sprayed it down with a towel. It's a bit rainy to take outside to wash and rinse. It looks better, but still doesn't have that jet-black wet look we all crave. So maybe a dressing would do the trick? I'm guessing what I'm experiencing isn't unusual. What dressing do you guys recommend. Thanks again!

The tire needs to be cleaned properly before any dressing is applied.

The tires look like they have a fair amount of gunk in them that requires the use of a degreaser & a hose.

I will definitely do that. Yeah my tires definitely need dressing up. I can't believe I neglected it for so long. In fact I'm a little embarrassed to have posted all these pictures now without detailing the tires. Oops!

If you in a pinch and can't get APC right away, go to the local parts store and get the eagle one A2Z all wheel cleaner. That stuff cleans a tire like no tomorrow.

Agreed. It's a pretty good product.

These are actually 16" OEM Toyota rims for the Japanese Prius. Toyota marketed 2 Prius versions in the US: The standard US model w/ 15" rims and the "touring edition" (basically Japan's version) which you're seeing. This one has a beefier suspension and the larger rims. Before I dropped my car I never really liked them, but they've grown on me and are good for now. At 14lbs a piece it's hard to complain. I'm likely to up-size to 17s and LPP tires when I need new tires.

I picked up some Eagle One Wet Tire Shine from walmart. It was $4. I have no idea how good it is, I'll have to give it a try after work today.

Eagle One isn't bad. I would spray a sponge and then apply it to the tire though instead of spraying it on the tire to prevent as much sling as possible.
