  • Hall's Custom Detailing: 2003 Ford Thunderbird

Ok guys, so last weekend i did a full detail on a good friends of mine 2003 T-Bird so he could sell it. The car is originally from Texas and when it came up here it was never driven in the winter on snow/ice. The only real concerns he had were water spots on the car which i suspect came from the salt water engulfed Houston, Texas as well as some scratches etc. Anyway, heres my Process as well as a handful of pics, majority of the pics were inside and the few that were outside after finished were unfortunately in cloudy conditions.

    Process:

    Wash:
    • Megs Gold Class, 2BM, Grit Guards
    • Westley Bleche Wite on tires
    • Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner on wheels

    Prep:
    • Smooth Surface Clay bar on WHOLE vehicle (windows etc.)
    • Taped up rubbers, cloth, plastics etc.

    Correction:
    • Ultimate Compound on a W8207 Polishing Pad, Speed 6, Hood, trunk lid got multiple passes
    • M205 on a W9207 Finishing Pad, Speed 6, Hood, trunk lid got multiple passes

    LSP (wax/sealant)
    • M21 on a W9207 Finishing Pad, Speed 3, 2 passes on whole vehicle, cure time of 30-45 in between coats.

    Interior (includes trunk)
    • Vacuum entire interior
    • Treat problem spots on carpet (only 1 or 2) with APC+
    • Clean dash, door panels, consoles etc. with APC+
    • Protect with QID
    • Clean leather seats with Megs Aloe Leather cleaner and conditioner
    • Glass cleaned inside and out with SIG
    • All door/trunk jambs cleaned with M135 Syn. Spray detailer.

    Under-hood
    • Clean all accessible areas with APC+
    • Dress with M40

    Exterior (all non painted surfaces)
    • All exterior plastics, rubbers, vinyls dressed with Ultimate Protectant
    • Fender wells dressed with M40
    • Wheels, windshield trim polished with Hot Rims Mag & Alum. polish
    • Exhaust Tips polished with Hot Rims Mag & Alum polish
    • Tires dressed with Endurance High Shine tire dressing x2

I think that's the majority of the process, im sure there's some small stuff im missing but regardless, heres some before, during and after pics.

    Before:

    During:

UC and 205 on Hood, only UC on bumper cover, notice difference in flake and pop after 205!

    Finished:

Needless to say, my parents ended up buying the car after i detailed it, so now i can spend even more time and really finesse the car to make it PERFECT as its another vehicle in our garage now!

Next time we get the car out in the sun i will post more pics as well as trunk and under-hood pics as i realize now i totally forgot those!

Excellent job Zach! Don't see too many of these out on the road anymore, even though they are fairly new.
I'm sure the folks will have a blast driving it around!

It's going to turn some heads. People will be looking at it wondering what it is and then going oh yeh, I remember Ford remaking the T-Bird. They are nice looking cars.

I'm glad you are able to restore the vehicle back to what it should look like. That car makes a statement.

Whats the deal with T-Birds and water spots. Everyone I have ever done suffers from this condition. Nice job on the correction

What is that big white tent. Looks like a portable garage. Nice

I really thought that these Thunderbirds would be a big hit and I'm sure there's pockets of enthusiasts out there. But I think I see maybe 1 or 2 a year on the road. Beautiful remake of the car by Ford. I wouldn't mind driving one of those around.

The last one I did was black, and the waterspots were nasty. I was able to remove 100% of them via DA w/orange pad +105. You gotta work in small sections and apply moderate/heavy pressure. This doesn't mean using your full body weight though

The other T-Birds I removed the waterspots on I used a Ratory via Wool and rocks-n-bottle

There are times however when the etchings can be nearly impossile to remove though

Good Luck and keep us posted
