  • Horrible detail job

Ok well while the detail turned out great there were alot of draw backs. Yesterday i went to detail this ladies Buick but her garage would not fit the car in there because she had some painters over to do some work and they put all there stuff in her garage but luckily i was able to do the work in the neighbors garage that i did some work for a few days ago. That was the first draw back. So then i moved some stuff around in that garage so i could have room to work in. Then while i was over there claying the car i came to use my hose to wash my hands and looked down and i had paint all over my hands! The workers just went over and used my hose to clean there stuff off with and got paint all over the hose and the gun. So i went over there and let the owner of the painting business have it . Of course i made them go over there and clean it immediately. Its not just the paint i also use 2 in line water filters to purify the water to reduce water spotting and the filters are not cheap and they were using it to clean paint brushes and rollers. Ok well i got them to clean it so no big deal. Then i went back to the other garage and i noticed they were doing something in there. They were removing some panels of left over sheet rock from work they did in there a few weeks ago i guess and another person was sweeping all the loose sheet rock on the ground. At first it did not hit me but then i went to start compounding some of the scratches out and just as i went to i realized the entire car was now covered in sheet rock dust and they hit two of the tires that i already cleaned with the panels putting big white smudges on them so i had to touch that up to. Ok so after i used my leaf blower and some UQD to remove all the sheet rock dust i got back to work. Then later as i went to get my APC and dilute it in my bucket i saw paint all over my bucket They used it to clean stuff too. And got paint all over it and dint clean it. Fortunate for them they had already left by the time i saw this or i would have sprayed super degreaser all over the hood of the paint owners new truck in the direct sunlight and let him try and take care of it within 30 seconds. Ok i may have not went that far but i was mad. So that is what i mean by horrible detail job and sorry for the long write up but i had to vent. Anyways here was the process on the car it had a few scratches, and light swirls and the paint just looked dull
    EXT
    1. Wash - GC
    2. Clay - SSCK
    3. Clean/ Polish - #85 w/ W7006 pad where necessary, followed by #80 w/ W8006 pad on the whole car.

    that's a really nice job
sux about the painters, I hate to say it, but some people are just jerks
like, I dont mind you using my stuff, just ask me to use it, and put it back the way you found it. Nothing makes me more irritated that when people use my stuff without asking , and then leaving it out

Wow, looks good. I wish you were here in El Paso. I'm going to get someone to detail my car. My wife has finally convinced me that I won't be able to do it myself.

Why cant you do it yourself? The chances of finding a detailer who will do a good job using the 2 bucket method, correct mits, good quality products, ect.. are few and far between.

Derrick, Sorry to hear that you had the detail from hell. On the plus side. You brought the Buick back to life. You were not kidding, it was very dull looking. You made it pop. Great job as usual. Glad everthing turned out well at the end. Great work.

I couldn't make it through the hand wash two weeks ago without my back killin me for five days afterwards. I'm not used to this being hurt stuff. Hopefully, I'll make a decent recovery and can get back to detailing our vehicles again.

Oh ok i forgot about your back, well i guess the best thing is to take what you learn out here and put it towards finding a good detailer. Ask lots of questions about there methods and products to make sure they know what they are doing because i know over there in SA there are far to many people out there with a rag, a bucket, and a pressure washer and calling themselves detailers and I'm always getting called from people to fix there work. Just make sure there passion is in the detailing and not the money

I just realized that. This whole time i was thinking Buick and its probably because i did a similar one last week that was a Buick ( I think ) but thanks for pointing that out i even got down there and polished the chrome around the Mercury emblem and still thought Buick. I guess i was looking more at the reflection and gloss on the chrome than the words written in it

The emblem for Mercury looks a lot like the Buick Emblem. I have a Buick & when I see a Mercury coming at me, the first thing I think is that it is a Buick. So I see that as an honest mistake.

Nice job on the car. That paint really was dull. Nice to see it shine again. What a pain with those painters. Not only did you lose time with having to go over to the painters but they contaminated your area with sheet rock dust.
Great job on that car once again!
