Hey Tom,
The backing plate model number for the 6.5" pads is : W-64.
I measured my backing plate and it looks like is 5" in diameter. The reason I like the Meg's plate so much is that it has a round knob that protrudes at the center of the plate. It matches the size of the round opening in the velcro on the back of the pad. This knob helps to self-center the pad. It really works!
