    Re: 2007 Holden Commodore SS

Glad to see Australia is finally kicking butt over in America. No offence intended. The platform of the commodore since it's inception in 1979 has always been based on an Opel design. Mechanically and design wise it's gone through alot of changes since then. At one point early on they were available with pretty gutless 4 cylinders and some 6's. The mid 80's they were using Nissan straight 6's and various V8's. About 1988 they started using an Aussie made 5 Litre 304ci V8 on certain models and the V6's were old 3.8L Buick designs. Some models received a stroked 355ci V8. in 1995 the Buick engine was refined to a less harsh running sequential injection 3.8L V6. In 1996 on some models (including mine ) they used a 3.8L supercharged V6 (L67). I think around 2000 the V8's became a 5.7L (LS1). Now the V8's are 6L. Thats pretty much the Holden commodore history in a very small nutshell.

I'll do my best to do the conversions for you guys - maybe someone could check them?
Motor Magazine here in Oz ran a 0-100km/h (0 - 62 mph?) in 5.2seconds and did a standing quarter mile in 13.4!!
Stock standard, straight off the showroom floor....staggering...
      She has the 6 litre, OHV, 16 valve alloy Gen IV V8 ( I think they've called it the L98??), making 270kw (362hp) and 530Nm (390lb-ft)
Price is A$45,000 and tonight the conversion against the US dollar was around $0.76, making it approximately US$34,000 - how would that compare to what is on the market over there currently, because it's taken ours by storm!!

As I said mine is black, so I'll be sure that the first ever pic-post I do is of my new baby when she arrives
According to the car mags over here, the base model G8 GT should start at about $27-28K, which would be outstanding! The loaded GT would be in the low to mid $30K range. Myself, I could do without the navigation system and sunroof, etc. My navigation system is google maps!

They projected an upper 13 to lower 14 second 1/4 mile for the 362 HP version of the LS2, which would be fine! I can say from personal experience that the 6.0L LS2 is an absolute blast to drive! The same engine is used in the base model 'Vette!

Soon to be replaced by an LS3 with a supposed 450hp. The LS2 is awesome, but the G8 will have the L76 engine in it though, not the LS2 since it is being phased out. The L76 is the same as the L98 but it has active fuel management. Still gonna be an awesome car.

Thanks for the comments guys - I totally love this car and I think I'm going to be even more obsessed with detailing this one than I was with my previous cars.

Mine has the L98 engine - active fuel management would have been a nice thing to have, but for whatever reason Holden isn't offering it in Australia yet.

I think you guys are going to love it when it comes over to the States as the G8
