    Re: Re: The new Camaro

Dodge is ok. But Chevrolet is the best! Dodge does have some nice vehicle's but nothing that I would drive. I would like to drive a Chevrolet Impala. That's my favortire car.

From a corporate standpoint, GM said sales and profits had fallen.

This was due to buyer's interest dropping.

Fit and finish was below the quality of its competitors. Though the engines and suspensions were strong and powerful, the rest of the vehicle had its flaws.

Personally, the vehicles had become too cramped inside. One of my brothers, who is 6'5", was ready to purchase a new 2000 WS6, but his head scraped the roof and his knees hit the dashboard. He bought a GTP instead.

Prices on the new ones were too high for the younger people who would consider one. The public's image of the vehicles had declined, as well. Many people looking at the Camaro/Firebird think negatively, especially those in the target buyer market.

For the more affluent, they looked at the Camaro/Firebird as a "poor man's Corvette" and would spend (finance/lease) more to get a Corvette...or an import.

If this prototype that we're seeing at auto shows and elsewhere does get built, Chevrolet hopes to correct these problems. Reportedly, one issue holding back the official go-ahead is potential cost. GM feels it might not be able to make an appealing vehicle that would actually sell enough units to be profitable.

Incidentally, this is a major reason why Dodge may not build the Challenger.
See the big picture, enjoy the details

one of the main problems is cross-platforming

Saturn had a hit with the Relay, but then they made a Chevy uplander.

Chevy had a hit with the Equinox, then they made the Pontiac Torrent.

Each Division needs to Design, Market and Sell their own vehicles.

Its more expensive to manufacture that way, but it also keeps the value and more importantly the Demand up.

Platform sharing is done in many cases with current cars from various manufacturers. It's a good thing when done right but there isn't the need for an Equinox with different styling or the Torrent.

          Nissan shared platform:
          Altima, Maxima, Quest, Murano

350Z, G35 Coupe and Sedan, FX

          Honda shared platform:
Accord, Odyssey, Pilot, TL, MDX, Ridgeline, RL

It doesn't seem to affect the resale of these cars at all. Most people don't even know that they share as there isn't much of a hint.

Yes its has a lot of retro, but unlike the new Mustang, in my opinion anyway, it also looks very modern. If GM will build it in the next 24-36 months, I will buy one.
