Meh, I don't like the copy cat styling. Sales from retro designs start dropping off during the 3rd year, sometimes earlier. Look at the new mustang, it had extremely strong sales when it came out, in fact the 2005 Mustang had the stronger sales than the last 3 years combined. Now their sales numbers are looking very similar to previous years, only slightly higher, and IMO the sales will continue to drop off and level off to the lvl they were previously at. I really think chevy should be looking forward, instead of to the past.
From what press I've read on the Camaro show car, the concept was to not be "retro", but to use "styling cues" from the '67-'69 models.
After this, I again looked at the Camaro and saw too much of the past for my liking. From the front 1/3, the concept reminds me a great deal of Cadillac's XLR; however, the car looks more retro than anything else.
As you said, it seems more of a remake and less of using "styling cues" from the first generation model.
The Mustang is a modern remake of their older design, but it is done well for what it is. It is retro...no doubt about that.
As you say, Chevrolet ought to look forward...I hope General Motors as a whole can look forward.
One of my best friends all through High School drove one of these just like this one, (but I never buffed it out). Here's what's really sad, he sold it to buy a Chrysler K car.
Oh the insanity...
His Grandparents purchased the Impala brand new and passed it down to him, his dad helped him to rebuilt the 283 and the Turbo 350 transmission along with brakes and all the peripherals and it was one sweet looking and running Impala...

I honestly don't like any of the cars that are taking designs from the past. Although I have been a big fan of the Mustang, I wasn't too happy with the '05s. I think that the past should be left where it was. All the cars listed looked great before, but the past is just that, past. The new Vette looks really good IMO though. It is the first Vette that I have liked since they stopped making the stingray. The charger wouldn't be too bad, but the back end is no good, and I just don't like the front of the new camaro. I liked the ones before they stopped making them a lot more than the new ones. Why did they stop making them? Does anyone know?

Well... not that it exists over here... or that I would be able to afford it if it did... but I really love this one:
Though white sides on the tired would look even better.
Mike-in Orange --- funny you mention the challenger. When I saw the car in a magazine I walked over to my wife and told her that if the production version has the 6.1L HEMI and looks like the proto that I will buy one. I want a black one with flat black stripes. Lower that thing and put some chrome wheels on...oh my...
