I've used this stuff myself(red in color). Also the stuff with the fibres...very strong. I do the same.I get it from the bodyshop..good stuff.
Look forward to seeing the painted finish.
Are you doing the painting yourself or are you taking it to a body shop or both?
I'd love to do painting, but I don't have the means to do it.My freind did it in his lock up,with a twin compressor, cheapo pistol...The results were decent/acceptable.(met.red with CC).
Are there any cheap ways of drying the air entering the compressor, without having professional air dryers?
I find the humidity always fills the tank with water, making spray painting a no go.
I heard from hotrodders claiming that they avoid using body fillers on doors, gates, trunks, etc because the shock could loosen the filler. Seeing that this is a gate, would this be of concern?
Out of curiosity, is this tailgate for your own truck or maybe a friends truck?
Being around the body shop business when I was younger I know how fast the labor can add up on a project like this after all the hammering out of the metal and filling and cutting in the new shape. If this was a retail paying customer I would guess that it may end up being cheaper just to buy a new tailgate.
With you being in the business I know that you know which route would be the most cost effective, that's why I was curious if this was yours or a friends that you may be helping out with the cost of labor.
I enjoy seeing the body work posts from you. keep them coming. Brings back memories of being around the body shop when I was younger. thanks

Good call It belongs to a friend.
He was hit hard in the rear, trashed the bumper and tail gate I looked for 3 months for used but no luck. he needed the ins money for other things so I am helping him out . I replaced the bumper with a roll pan and he loved the look and it made the gate look worse so I agreed to fix it.

I've seen a lot of cars done with filler on wings,doors,tailgates....even on my own....sunroof and rear bumper trim for modified exhaust....Havn't had any problems myself.
I've seen holes been filled with lead, but is harder to level off.
