  • Super Degreaser- From the MOL Archive

My girlfriend wanted to try some of that Black Magic Titanium Tire Gel. It is very, very thick, has a "Unique formula of polymers and molecular weight silicones that provide self-healing formula even after being lightly scuffed" and the "Gel formula can last even after the car has been washed." No kidding! She put it on her Bronco and I had actually put some on my truck after seeing hers. Well, my truck got really dirty a couple of weeks ago, and I washed it. I tried scrubbing this tire gel off with full strength Simple Green and a stiff nylon tire brush, after trying to clean it with the brush at the car wash (The car wash brush did absolutely nothing). It just gunked up in my brush and smeared on the tires. I think I still have some on there. Anyways, hers finally got dirty enough to where she wanted to clean them. This gel has been on her tires for about 3-4 weeks now (she doesn't like cleaning the tires). It has lasted that long, even through rain. After trying full strength Simple Green and the stiff brush, what was I going to use? I have never ran into something like this where even full strength Simple Green has not worked. I got all of my Detailer products on Saturday, and this is the first of them I have used. I chose to use Super Degreaser diluted 4:1 for heavy duty cleaning, and that same brush that I got most of that gel out of. Sprayed the tires to make sure they were cool, and to get any dust/dirt off of them that I could. Here is what it looked like after being sprayed off. Notice the whole tire, including the white lettering, is very dark colored and dirty. The lettering was the same color as the tire from certain angles (2nd photo).

I sprayed 4:1 Super Degreaser on the tires, let it sit for about 10 seconds, and then started scrubbing. After doing the first tire, the Super Degreaser not only easily got rid of that gel, it also cleaned all of it out of the brush! All four tires look brand new! Shiny letters! Black sidewall that is beading water!

    The 5-Star Product

I will make sure this product is readily available in my detailing supplies! Can't wait to try it on other things; I don't know what this stuff can't handle after that gel!

Just noticed I'm in the wrong section! Maybe a Mod could help me out? Thanks!

It's really nice to read about your experience with super degreaser, just one question though, when you sprayed on the super degreaser and brushed the surface was it sudsy was it producing suds like APC would? Just curious because when I tried super degreaser it did clean the surface but there was absolutely no suds when I brushed it with a nylon brush. May the others can share their experiences as well.

I am curious if it would foam if using the foaming sprayer though...
I am most likely going to get some regular APC and foaming sprayers. I used the free Simple Green Bottles I got and they have a foam setting. The foam sits on the tire really well, and it seems like the foaming works better, maybe that it stays on there better. (NXT Tire Foam was the best tire cleaner!).

It does foam through a Megs Spray head, not as well as APC/SafeD etc though.

When i've tried Super Degreaser for this i've also found it makes the foam go brown which some has said is the rubber from the tyre (sorry tire) breaking down. I've found it excellent as you describe but don't want to prematurley age the rubber

Is the Super Degreaser rubber safe?

Good question! I hope someone from meguiar's can shed some light on this matter.

My take is that it should be safe for rubber since it is recommended for use in engine bays. But that is just me, let us wait for someone else to chime in.

I had to do a detail Thursday and Friday of this week. I used everthing I had in my arsenal to get his rims clean. Nothing was working. Then I remembered Tylers post about the Super Degreaser. I tried it and it worked wonders. Tyler I owe you one. Saved me on Thursday. Thanks.

I don't think that it will break down the rubber. I have cleaned the tires with acetone (nail polish remover) and never had a problem. That actually works pretty good too! The brown stuff coming off the tire is called blooming. That is what you are actually trying to clean off of a new tire so it doesn't look brown.

I will have to get some foam sprayers for the Super D then too!

Glad it worked! As you can see in the pictures, something got on that rim (was on there when she bought it). I didn't even scrub it, but Super D took some of whatever is on there off. Will have to give it a full scrub down one of these days. It has survived through everything else I have tried.

Spay super degreaser on cool dry tires, it cleans so much better, same goes for wheel brightener.
