Silly question, but is that on a just washed car one won that needs washed?

Got a little drizzle on 6/4/2015. Here's a couple photos of the beading. Applied back on 2/24/2015. Just shy of 4months.

365 is still on the paint.

On the subject of sheeting versus beading: If you really think about it, sheeting would be preferable but in reality how do you make that work? For example, a car sitting in the rain is subject to droplets of water landing on it, which break up and splatter as they hit the surface, effective making even smaller droplets. Some of these droplets will converge and make slightly larger droplets on the surface. Then what? On the horizontal surfaces of the car you will not be able to sheet that water off the car. Some force must be applied to the water on the surface in order for it to sheet off the paint. If you take the nozzle off the hose and let a nice, clean laminar flow of water run over those horizontal panels you will indeed sheet the majority of the water off the surface, even with a product that creates insane beading. But there is a force at work here, that of the water pressure (and the sheer volume of water) flowing across the surface and effectively pushing the beads out of the way. But back to the rain - you've got beads of water sitting on a horizontal surface, and gravity will not pull those beads sideways and off the surface to create a true sheeting effect. It's just not going to happen. Oh, sure, there could be highly specialized coatings in existence that will cause so much pooling of the water that, coupled with the fact that virtually no car on the market today has a truly flat hood, roof or trunk, and you could get much of the water to flow off the surface. But what's the cost of that material? What's the possibility of even incorporating it into a car wax? And what would that wax cost? We can do almost anything we set our minds so, really, but the market for $1000 waxes or $500 compounds (just theoretical examples mind you) is virtually non existent. And besides, it's not like everyone's car is having their paint destroyed by sunlight being amplified by the magnifying effects of water beads sitting on the surface. You might be able to fry an ant with a magnifying class on a sunny day, but we aren't even close to seeing that same issue with water beads.

I've had this on the hood for 3 months and in what I am experiencing is that the sheeting is better than the overall beading.

I will keep my opinion short and sweet.

Beading and sheeting isn’t a sign of protection being present.
Beading is NOT the best result. Picture a million magnifying glasses on your paint… Could spell disaster in the sun.

Based on several conversations I have heard with Meg reps, beading isn’t preferred and beading isn’t a sign of protection. I understand coming out with a product that the customer wants, but why advertise a claim that isn’t necessary and could spell disaster in a certain situation?

Meg came out with a product that PROTECTS the surface for a year, with minimal effort! AWESOME is what I say. No one said that it couldn’t be topped with your fav Meg sealant or wax. You could have a base layer that should last a year and a topper that will add some shine and even more protection… (even though shine comes from solid polish work and protection may be different since its adhering to the Paint Protect, in theory).
Paint Protect topped with ULW or GC, I say that’s an AWESOME COMBO!

Before paint Protect was released, I know Meguiars struggled with a new product to launch. The coating craze is more than ever, being that it’s an established market in Asia. Why does the US consumer want a coating so bad?
Longevity… valid reason so Meg said, here’s a bottle of Paint Protect.
Ease of use and less applications needed when compared to conventional methods/ products, problem solved with Paint Protect.
BEADING… Meg, you should have ignored this one!

    HAHA

Anyway, Meg… Thanks for coming out with a terrific product, Paint Protect!

Has not rained that much here lately. I didn't take photos the last time it rained about 2 weeks ago. Beading still looks the same. Sheeting is still good.

We have said from Day 1 with this product that water beading actually improves a week or more after initial application, following the first wash that strips out the last of any "carrier ingredients" in the product, leaving behind just the extremely durable polymers that are the main point of Paint Protect. Those videos showing somewhat lackluster beading 24 hours after application prove nothing, as we have said from the get go. That you are seeing an improvement in beading after a few weeks and a proper wash only reinforces what we've always said about this product. So, you know, thanks for that!!
Thanks Mike for the info on D114.

I too have been conducting my own review of this product. I applied and let sit for the suggested 3-5 min. I did not do the "hose water test" like many. I let it cure until I washed. I took the coating cure technique. I let it sit for at least a week until it was washed. Last night it rained and the beading was awesome (even though id rather ANY water to sheet). I don't consider sheeting or beading a sign of protection being present. Instead, I trust Meguiars clam in that this product will protect my surface for 1yr.
Next was to apply to windshield. I applied some common sense to this sort of application. Knowing that this product leaves behind some of the carrying agent: Once this product was removed with a MF towel, I figured it would leave behind a cloudy look to the glass… No worries. I let that sit for a week and after the first wash, its gone and the windshield really releases water while driving in rain better than any product Ive tested!

I will be putting a patent on this application for the windshieldJ
BTW, I am not responsible if anyone tries applying to their windshield!

Could be but with all this talk about D114 not leaving anything behind I'm assuming it's the beading exhibited by 365. This would be more of a Stoops question for his technical expertise.

We got a good rain other day too and my truck had nice beads like that as well, I didn't get picks but it even beaded like that on dirty paint. I haven't given it a proper wash yet since I applied it.

    ^^ Looking good.

But you'd have to wonder if that's the D114 producing that beading. From memory, your earlier pics of the PP365 (alone) beads were not as tight as that.

Got some rain today. The car has not been washed in 1 week. The last wash was a with D114.

It's officially been on this hood for 2 months.

With this California drought the car has been getting more and more D114 rinseless washes. Not sure when the next full 2 bucket wash will be. So any beading shots will be delayed.

I've also had the chance to apply this new product on my re-painted red M5.

For what the price point is at,(7-10$) and the function that it offers, it is a really trick product worth using on a daily or car that sits out in the sun frequently.

AutoZone currently offers it at a discount of I think 8$, I would definitely have one in the garage. Pretty sure the bottle will last me an eternity too.

    Good Job Meguiars
