  • Duo-Fiber Glass Towel Review

My review of the Duo-Fiber Glass towel.

    Packaging & Labeling:

All the Gold Class accessories have nice labeling and packaging.

    Usage Tips/Directions:

Simple but good directions and care tips.

    Performance:

I tested the towel with four different glass cleaners (two foam, two liquid), and the towel performed very well with all the products. As a matter of fact, the towel seemed to make the foam cleaners work even better. Maybe Meguiar’s has hit on the magic combination of Polyester, Polyamide and Cotton. It seems to have just the right “bite to help clean well and minimize streaking.

The only issue I have with the towel is it’s bulk. I think Scottwax hinted at this in another thread and mentioned that a smaller towel might help. I’m not sure whether it’s the size, the thickness, or a combination of both, but the towel is a bit “bulky to use, and tough to get into tight areas. Maybe a slightly thinner, smaller towel (or combination of both) might help. On the other hand, it might take away from the effectiveness of the towel.

    Value:

Can’t pass this one up for the price.

    Conclusions:

A fine product that is close to being perfect… might just need a little tweaking.

    Pros:
    Dedicated product (I like them).
    Just the right “bite.

    Cons:
    A little bulky.

    Initial Ratings:

Almost “too good for Joe Consumer!
    Consumer rating = 10

Only the size is a slight drawback.
    Detailing Enthusiast rating = 9.5

I agree with your review. The towel is very thick and very absorbent. It does fold over on itself sometimes due to a combination of thickness and absorbency. The glass cleaner gets picked up in the towel and the towel wants to stop but the arm keeps going! I used it with the NXT Glass Cleaner with very good results.

Hmmm... after the third wash (hand wash) the entire one end of the towel is tearing away from the edge binding.

Something to keep an eye out for.

Uh oh. Maybe strictly hand washing will help it some?

I've found that my Duo-Fiber Towel tends to leave a lot of lint on my windows, lint that is very hard to remove! I don't know if there's some static electricity thing going on or what, but that lint just does not want go come off! I have washed my towel twice now, hopefully the lint issue goes away with further washings.

You know my first towel was lint free after one wash. I bought another because I liked the performance of the towel. The new towel even after three washes leaves so much lint that it looks like glitter on my windows. I always wash the towel by itself so I KNOW that it is the towel, not other MF.

I don't think I will buy anymore, back to 16X24 WW's for glass.

Hmm. Unfortunately mine had lint after washing too However it is brand new and I too am hoping the lint will minimize upon further uses and washes.

Yep, there seems to be a slight concern about the consistency of the quality of some of the products. My Duo-Fiber towel had almost no lint issues after the first wash. On the other hand, the Ultra PlushCotton Chenille mitt I recieved had considerable linting issues after a couple washes, while others have reported almost no linting with the same mitts.

Surely, all of us can be "nuts"!

I'm sure that Meguiar's will get it right!

I've always had lint issues with chenille mitts in general. That, and at least perhaps up to this point, without the guarantee of 100% cotton, I use sheepskin mitts exclusively.

I put my Duo-fiber through one wash and it is torn and ripped away from the outer lining. It also left a lot of very fine lint that is all over my glass and looks like small flakes of fiberglass.

Mine has torn as well but not a single piece of lint!?!?

Mike or anyone else at Meguiars... has the issue with the edge tearing been fixed? I would like to pick up another one somewhere local.

If there is a QC issue I wish that it would be fixed. I love the performance of the towel, but not at the expense of the lint. I mean the windows actually looked like that horrible "glitter tint."

After the 2nd wash I'm still struggling with excessive lint. I have found that turning the towel over to a fresh section seems to remove the majority (but not all) of the lint. Requires a lot of rubbing though, something I would rather avoid on my Jeep Grand Cheerokee (Lots-O-Glass!)
