  • Another new member from the UK

    Hi everyone,

I am located in the South East of England and took delivery of a new black metallic E class Mercedes in September. The bonnet of my car had a couple of etchings on it, no idea from what, so I thought a careful treatment of T-cut would remove them. It did of course do the job but left awful marring on the surface and after lots of googling I was drawn into the meguiars products. I've only performed hand treatments as I am terrified of messing the paintwork up. Using soft foam pads I used UC or Scratch X 2.0 depending on the marring. Did several hand treatments and then followed up with Swirl Remover across the whole bonnet (Swirl X doesn't seem to exist in the UK). After this I finished off with NXT 2.0 liquid. This seems to have removed the marring but most posts I read in the forum seem to suggest that a DA polisher is the way to go in the future?

As I said I am very cautious about messing with paintwork but I do want my nice black car (earned from real hard work) to stay looking good.

One burning question I do have is how much of the surface is likely to get removed with hand treament? I did this with a flat hand pressure using meguiars foam pads.

I now possess UC, Scratch X 2.0, Swirl remover! deep crystal polish (not used yet as purchased too late for my treatment), and NXT 2.0. I use foam pads for application and meguiars microfibre cloths for removal. These are such good products.

I was in your shoes at one time. But I did invest in a DA and did a lot of research to learn the proper technique and which pads to use before I actually used it. I'm glad I went the DA route. Saves me a lot of time when I detail my personal cars or my brothers. Considering you have a dark car you should use polish the next time you detail the car. It will really bring out the depth of the black metallic paint.

Hi, I'm the "other" new UK member, I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I bought a dark blue BMW 530D last year & like to look after my cars as much as possible but noticed swirls all over it recently so had a detailing friend go over it (whilst giving me tuition & a few hints n tips on how to clay etc.). What a difference its made !! ....looks better than new !! I already have the Megs swirl cream, the 3 stage cleaner, polish and carnauba but doing it by hand definately doesn't give as good results as a Megs DA. I have recently bought the Megs Ultimate Liquid Wax because it has very good reviews on here. Welcome aboard this excellent forum & hope you enjoy it as much as I am.
