I just bought my first black car and am looking forward to learning how to keep the showroom shine and swirl free. I hear I have my work cut out for me......

Not really, just have to get off to a good start and stay that way. Some blacks can be more annoying than others though.

Are there any defects, swirls, etc on it now?

          Welcome to MOL!

You didn't just get a car... you got a part time job! Haha! Just teasing.

Like Murr said it's not too bad if you take the steps to wash right so as not to cause defects.

Thanks for your responses! A week after I got the car the dealer put a sealant coat on it. Two weeks later I took it to get the plates put on and they washed it.....afterward it was full of spider web swirls. The dealer agreed to redo the sealant coat. It looks better but still has a few fine swirls. I am approaching with caution and looking for the best way to take care of it without it becoming a second job. I signed up for the detailing class on Aug. 25 but my name has not shown up on the list yet.

All the sealant is doing is hiding the swirls, so it is up to you if you will want to fix them up or not.

Going to a class will help, and let you see what may be needed. May even be able to do a test spot while there, or esp on a Thurdsay night can get a test spot done, see what might be needed.
