  • New Guy from Central Florida.

Hello all. I havent paid much attention to paint protection in the last few years as my cars were older beaters.

But the price of gas has spurred me on to buying a new gas sipper. A Toyota Prius 2008. It is metallic red whatever they call it.

So, I now want to do right by it. I want this 45-50mpg auto to last a while and do it looking good if possible!

I was looking over the site and the myriad of choices in waxes, polymers, etc and have a question:

The engineer in me remembers something about wax melting away in the heat of a sunny day. Wouldnt this diminish the protection?

Is the NXT 2.0 different in this way? Not intending to offend or start a fight; just want to know the best product to use in Hot central florida weather. Unfortunately the vehicle will sit outside as the garage is full of junk just now from an air condition/ air handler change out.

So whats best for my area if left outside in the sun and weather? I will be claying and cleaning and polishing and then final coverage but am just not sure what product is best for my import paint hot sun application.

Again Im glad to be here! I hope to learn a lot!

Hi and welcome to Meguiar's Online!

Wax will increase the UV protection of your paint, it will provide a protective film, or sacrificial barrier between contaminants or corrosive substances and the paint, if you don't have this protective film your finish will be exposed to harmful things.

    Gives these thread a look.

Suggested products for taking care of a new car!

A well kept finish will indeed last longer, I wax my car very often and it's because your finish is always exposed to contaminants and this "protective barrier" will diminish in time so it's good to wax often to reestablish this protective film. Just to note that this "barrier" will protect you against some contaminants but things like acid rain, very hard water it will protect you to some point that will eventually brake down. If the contaminant can damage the clear coat it will certainly will brake the "protective film" (wax later)

Good luck with you new car!

        to mol.

I live in west central Fl. I have never had a problem with the Cleaner wax, gold class #21' or #66. Like Yaleard said. Wax often to maintain and you will be alright.

thanks guys! The car is new but will be outside of the garage for now drat-it-all.

I cannot decide between gold class and NXT 2.0. I intend to clay the car first anyway and even use a cleaner and polish then the gold class or nxt 2.0. Its been a while since I cared about the finish of a car. hope it works out ok!
