Re: Full Page Quotes need to stop!

If Joe hadn't posted that response, any number of us would have, including myself. I was going to quote the first post and only reply with a thumbs-up icon. But it would have all been in good fun, not to ridicule the OP who actually makes a very valid point. The pics take some time to load and that increases exponentially when the photos have been quoted by one or more users.

I'm a mod on a sports forum. Last season I posted a similar thread about members who quote an entire article and then add something like "Point taken!" or "Heck yeah!". I got the same treatment, but it was all in good fun and I expected those responses because of the familial nature of common interest topic forums. The fact that members poked fun at my thread was (to me) a sign of acceptance rather than ridicule.

On this forum I have actually made it a practice to right click on a thread I know will contain photos (MOLers are very good about warning other members of the inclusion of multiple large pics) and I open it in a new tab or window. That way I can continue to browse other threads and return to the pic heavy thread at my leisure. Just an FYC.

We have so many people that join that are new to this thing we call a discussion forum that there's always going to be Newbies that make common mistakes just because they don't know any better.

ONE OF THE MOST COMMON MISTAKES IS TYPING IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS WHICH MAKES IT LOOK LIKE YOU'RE YELLING AT EVERYONE!

Even though you're not. It's a fairly common mistake and on this forum most of our members will politely point this out and sometimes include this picture to add a little levity.

Also on a related topic, on the forum homepage you can find links to these two articles which are written with the specific purpose of helping a person to get the best replies possible to their questions...

Here's another one. Instead of scrolling up on a page with scores of large pics to get back to the top of the page, just hit the Home button. To get to the bottom of the page in a hurry, hit the End button

ahh usenet... My servers were once in the top 10 of usenet servers in the world. We had 4 percent of all articles running through our stuff.

Now you want to talk about usenet etiquette, not many current internet newbies would or could survive usenet. I am still active very much for apache, sendmail and a couple of others.. Oops, off topic.. Sorry

+1 I knew about this, but I am so much in the habit of using the mouse to navigate, I forgot about how handy those buttons could be in the above mentioned situation.

Re: Full Page Quotes need to stop!

Honestly I will not complain about this forum at all because I love it. The few others I am on (which I wont mention) let people do whatever they want and everyone has an attitude most of the time. Here I get tons of great information, everyone is very friendly and ready to help, and I have made some great friends here. So these little things like the OP mentioned may bother me but foilr you say that Murr and Joe (who are some great guys) were rude and had an attitude but Im sure that some forums would be much worse.

MOL is a great place and with tons of information that has actually made me some money maybe one of the forum rules should be "your getting brilliant information for free so dont complain"

Yes sir! this is a great forum. actually its the first forum I ever came to! when I got here I no idea how to navigate it or how to even make posts. Within a few short days it seemed everyone steered me in the right direction.

another car forum I belong to is full of profanity and derrogitory (theres a spelling error) statements. Its so bad I don't read half the post that are there.

As far as the spelling and grammer errors here, keep in mind that there are so many members from ALL OVER THE WORLD on here where english is most likely a second, third or not even a common language where they live. think of going onto a spanish or german forum with a 3rd grade reading level in that language.

Re: Full Page Quotes need to stop!

I just came across this topic and I thought it was one of the Mod's asking those who do this to cut back.

                        Boy was I wrong!!!
I could understand if Foilr was asking politely if people could stop doing it, maybe he has a slow computer...who knows, but that post was THICK of nasty attitude and what's with the demanding?? Looks like you're new to this forum and if you've been to hundreds of other forums you should know darn good and well that most people on the internet are not professional posters and they do only what they know.

Sounds to me like somebody missed snack time!

As others have said, it's all in good fun, this is by far the most friendly forum I've ran into. You need to lighten up and think first before you post becuase a thread like this one will bring you lots of SARCASM.

Like Mike Phillips said there should be a how-to topic on quoting posts...maybe YOU should write it since it struck a deep nerve to you.

Anyways I hope you stick around as there is an infinite amount of knowladge here and the "heavywieghts" would support you if you didn't come off as abrasive as you did with this post.

                            It was a joke.
                            This happend to me once.
I was hurt on another forum by all the "funny" posts.
I was serious and all the responces I recived were a joke so I left the forum
Granted only 1 post upset this guy but he was offended.
About a year later I went back with a better understanding of forums and found a bunch great people who helped me out.
I'm very happy I took some time off before I responded again.
Hopefully this chap will do the same.

If you push the (I) pwr button on your computer can you still hear members on here discussing things of not so much importance when we have young men and women far away from home risking there lives so you have the freedom to discuss these little things ?

That's all I have to say about that.

I do use the quote function, but if there is too much to delete,I just use the reply, but copy and paste the information neccessary.I don't think anybody does this intentionaly to annoy. I think cut and paste would help to cut down the size of replies.Although,I must admit,it doesn't really bother me.
