Save it for the guy who took a grossed-out work truck or soccer mom van and made it look like new, or for the guy who took the swirled out car and made it look showroom perfect. That's where it should really go. But I will agree that it has gotten rather out of hand as of late.
I agree with that.
I still say turn it off, or drain everyone back down to zero???
I'm not sure the rep system is completely worthless, because it does show that at least some people are making notable contributions to the forum. However, I think it gets ridiculous when somebody gets a whole bunch of extra rep just because they had a little "ah-ha!" moment. Note to self: I need to add REP to the person that listed that cool step ladder that Lowes was selling over this last weekend!!! $22 for a $90 step ladder..... SCORE!!!
+1
My local Lowes was sold out of them and the next nearest store was 30 miles south of me. I called and asked them to hold one for me while grousing internally how a 60 mile round trip and two gallons of gas were going to make this great bargain a little less great.
Then I remembered that Home Depot price-matches Lowes! But even for a Black Friday item? Couldn't hurt to find out. I took the ad to my local Home Depot 4 miles from my house. Not only did they match it, they beat it by 10%!
I just gave Mr. Stoops a REP and it added 4 to his score. That seems correct. (From 8,295 to 8,299) << Someone is well liked and working hard for MOL!
I also added a REP to Akimel and his score jumped up by 4. All seems OK. (From 2,156 to 2,160) << Great posts by this cat!
I only give out rep points to people that add good stuff to the MOL. I love looking at the Shine and Show postings and do add a rep point for the poster IF they go more indetail to how they did the detail. It's got to be informative to get the REP! Pretty sun shots of the car don't get it.
Does the REP Power system work? I think so.

I just gave you rep points for this post and you jumped from 43 to 93. I must have superchargerd mouse-clicking mojo...

It does seem that a relatively small group of people have discovered the function and are using it quite a bit lately. We're not calling it an abuse of the system....... most of you aren't really taking it seriously anyway so what's to abuse, really? But since some of the numbers really are getting waaay up there, and very quickly, if enough feedback says to ditch it then we just may.
Continued responses to this thread are welcome, either way.
Yeah, it is insane how much some people have, and so little others have. I'd say it's time to turn it off. On some sites it is an accurate way of determining the "veteran" or experienced users, but I don't that is completely the case on MOL.
To me a persons rep is formed by the content of their previous posts, not the number of green dots they have received. I don't have a problem with the rep point system, but I don't use them to base my opinion of a person off of.
I completely agree. I don't base my view of how reputable someone is based on how many times they posted in The Answer and Ask Game
Yup I noticed that as well. But personally I don't put much weight on it anyway.
Agreed.
